Re: Reversing Cameras

I fitted a reverse camera in the cover for the rear fog lamp and used a JVC deck with a small 3" LCD display in the headunit for the image. Good thing is you can leave it on while you are driving for that "race cam" thing to keep you entertained. Camera was from Ja**ar with a reversed image but just recently its no longer showing a reversed image; things on the screen are shown on the opposite side of where they actually are! Time for a new one!

Re: Reversing Cameras

I fitted the camera a while back and channelled the wiring thro' the roof lining on the drivers side then I sat back and thought out a way of hiding the the screen unit from the prying eyes of the knuckle dragging neanderthal set.... The one that's going to spot the screen and thinking its maybe a GPS smash my window and pull out the wiring and make off with it... And I eventually came up with an idea... Out of very thin tin (old tobacco tin) I cut 2x 4"strips half inch wide and using Liquid Nails stuck them onto the base of the screen so they were projecting from the rear of the screen by about 3 inches and 3 inches apart... Then I opened the dash cover (the one with a powerpoint built in) and bent the thin tin strips into the shape of the dash and the lip going around the edge. I can now lift the cover and remove the screen from view by just putting it back into the container in the dash.... Al 1-----Knuckle Dragging Neanderthal 0. While in use the screen stays upright and visible thro' the steering wheel instead of sliding off the dash when doing a two wheel cornering job when I'm out and about hooning around Mandurah.... Re: Reversing Cameras

I didn't take pics during the fitting period, didn't want to tempt problems by trying to multitask but I can and will take some of the finished job.... But I have no idea how to get them up onto the forum for viewing..... I'm just charging the camera battery and once thats done I'll take a few pics, especially of the little tin strips I made up to hold the screen in position.... I'll send the photos to Jalal by e-mail and perhaps he'll do the honours of posting them for me.... Al emoticon

Re: Reversing Cameras

Thanks Tony, whenever I have a job to do I like to sit and think about it before picking up any tools... With this camera job I had to think of some way of making the screen a fixture, well, enough to be able to see it without it sliding all over the dash... But I also wanted to be able to hide it out of sight as things like screens be they DVD, GPS or just camera screens are an attraction to the mental pygmies who think nothing of heaving a brick thro' your window and ripping the screen out along with shreds of wiring... They don't have the intelligence to install it in their own vehicle but as long as you can't use it they're happy..... The idea I came up with was simple cheap and effective and easy to do..... That's all I wanted in the first place..... I must add that all my jobs and thoughts don't come out on top, I've had some dismal failures in the past which I'll not mention..... Al emoticon
