Re: Maxtrax

I do it all the time. Tony has seen me do it I'm sure. I usually chuck a shovel on top of the tracks too. An ocky strap can be fed through the handle on the Max Trax with a little persuasion. One thing I will warn you about is that the tracks act a bit like a parachute and will increase drag on your car. Makes a noticeable difference to fuel consumption at highway speeds for me.

Cheers guys. Will only put the Max Trax on the roof when needed.

Todd, did you use long ocky straps or the short ones?

Re: Maxtrax

A combination of both. Long over the shovel and short over just the tracks.

Re: Maxtrax

The Maxtrax & other similar rigid types of tracks are also useful to use as a bridge to get over gaps in rocks or washaways in tracks etc.
Be careful though as we have seen them propelled backwards by the wheels if too much left foot is used.
more flexible things like shadecloth & carpet & the rollup rubber tracks are only useful in mud/sand.

I wouldn't use them as the bridges you described, they are not meant to take the cars weight .
Only for use as a traction aid.

Hi Guys,
Just doing my usual window shopping over the internet and have come across [url=[sign in to see URL] Super Cheap is currently having a sale on some recovery gear. Prices for both Maxtrax and Treds have been dropped from their extravagant retail prices. Sale ends tomorrow (20/04/14)

Re: Maxtrax

Supercheap have another version that look like Maxtraks but are somewhat cheaper.

They also come in two sizes - the smaller fits in the X-Trail rear storage very nicely and I have bought a pair as the full size are quite big (like Maxtraks) and are a pain to transport.

I think I paid around $140.

They work well and can also be use as a shovel.

Instructions say NOT to use them as any kind of Bridge!!

Recovery Tracks

I've just bought these for $99 inc delivery from Ebay.

--Log in or sign up to see linked image content--

Giantz 4WD Recovery Tracks (make on the box said NEURIM or NEUAIM - funky font, model RT-4WD-GN), in the green or black. 119cm x 33.5, stack together neatly, come with black webbing basic retrieval straps, and have some flexibility on the bias. They're not flat on the slabs there - they have decent grips underneath too so they shouldn't slip. They look pretty tough to me but only use will tell.

Re: Maxtrax

No, haven't used them yet. I'll take them with me tomorrow and try to find some soft sand or something where I can at least drive over the top. I don't want to get too carried away as I won't have anyone to get me out if I get stuck.
