Suspension Sag on RH Side

I can't remember exactly at what point I first noticed it after I purchased the vehicle (Jun 2006), but when the vehicle is parked on a level surface, the suspension appears to have sagged on the RH side. Measurements seem to indicate roughly 7mm. I know I am a solid chap (112Kg), but I would have thought the springs could have handled it, considering I have only been in the vehicle roughly two hours each day.

Are there any limits/specification set by Nissan for the X-Trail and acceptable sagging?

I have been thinking about taking the vehicle to a suspension place and getting them to swap the springs over, or might it be a warranty claim?

Thankyou

Re: Suspension Sag on RH Side

Did you purchase the car new? Has it been in any accidents?

I am not sure what it could be, might be best to check with Nissan if it's still under warranty.

My rear suspension seems to be higher compared to other xtrails i have seen - the gap from the wheel arch to the tyre is always slightly more than others (ones with or without tow bars). . . Jalal, do you remember you first brought this to my attention that time i picked up the CD player from yours? In any case i have not really been concerned with it.

Chrs

Re: Suspension Sag on RH Side

Hello Matt,

Yes, I bought it new and yes it has been in an accident.

I had noticed the sag before the accident and it has not changed as a result of the accident. But simply because it has been in an accident, I suspect this will give Nissan an out, if it was a warranty problem in the first place. The price you pay for putting things off.

Regards

Lloyd

Re: Suspension Sag on RH Side

Hi Lloyd

I would still definitely push for Nissan to check it out under warranty. If the accident topic comes up let them know that it was present beforehand - doing something is better than doing nothing, you never know, they might find the fault and fix it for you under warranty (which they should in any case).

Maybe take a pic for us to see and post it on the forum - it might not be anything to worry about.

Cheers
Matt

Hi Lloyd,

Compare the sagging against the factory values and let us know how much it's off by

Thanks for your responses, I will check tomorrow.

Jalal, as a side question regarding the site, I had subscribed to this topic. I received an e-mail notice when Matt first responded but nothing else. I only saw these because I noticed the 'New' icon when looking for another topic.

Regards

Lloyd

Lloyd,

I got notified of your reply (and Dave's) by email, so chances are that your internet provider has started blocking the email notifications from Runboard and is considering them as "spam". Check your SPAM or deleted folder and you might find them there.

Re: Suspension Sag on RH Side

Ok, have taken some measuremnts, they are as follows.

Front
LH 770 - RH 765

Rear
LH 775 - RH 765

I will move the exy to another spot in the garage tomorrow and take the measurements again.

Jalal, I received the notification for reply Ok. It just seems to be the odd notification which goes astray. Not a biggy, just thought I would ask.

Regards

Lloyd

Ok, have moved the exy to a couple more spots with the following results (same readings in both spots). Should also mention that the following readings were with warm tyres whilst the original above were taken cold. In both cases, all tyre pressures were the same.

Front
LH 773 - RH 766

Rear
LH 777 - RH 773

Not too sure about the big change in the rear RH, can only put it down to that particular spot in the garage.

It's is just about due for it's next service, will get Nissan to measure and give a verdict.

At the 60000K service I mentioned the sag and showed them my measurements. They carried out there own and confirmed my measurement. They weren't willing to make a call and have asked Nissan Australia for guidance. Will hopefully hear back next week.
