Westlake claim a 708mm rolling diameter, which at stock width has no risk of fouling (and doesn't). These are likely the same as the Goodride SL369   https://www.westlaketyres.com.au/sl369 Could have gone with the 215x75R16 but didn't want to reduce arch clearances quite so much. Also, more diameter=more strain. Wiz_Au's sage advice about heading onto rocky trails and potentially catching grippy tyres on rocks got me thinking about stresses that can upset a driveline designed for road use. The wider and taller the tyre, the more leverage it will have over the bearings and the CVs. Here in Oz vehicle reliability when out-back is important. With +35mm King springs, ground clearance is up 46mm, more than enough. With poly bushes and decent shocks, the ride is exactly what we were aiming for. Firmer, but not (noticeably) noisier than factory NVH levels. This is mainly because the SL369s are not exactly a knobbly A/T tyre. Barely worse than the Kumho Crugen HTs they replaced. Suspension is just as compliant off-road, but on-road cornering feels better even with the extra 46mm, (because of the bushings (except we did not fit poly thrust bushings (the big ones on the front lower control arms). Of course actual cornering won't be as good with the higher CoG, but the feel is definitely better. Did fit new control arms, plus other moving joints and mounts whilst in there), but the suspension changes were all done before renewing the tyres, so what affected the changes is clear.nondisclosed_email@example.com (roid)Mon, 03 Jan 2022 09:25:40 +0000 Re: Oversized Tires on T30? Do X-eys fitted with factory steelies (15") have different speedo calibrations? At ~703mm diameter the sizing is near perfect and will not overly strain anything either. 75% profile is the perfect AT sizing for an X-ey if you want to go off-road and be able to reduce pressure here and there.nondisclosed_email@example.com (roid)Mon, 03 Jan 2022 08:56:35 +0000 Re: Oversized Tires on T30? It is the icon with the tyre symbol. To be equivalent to the 215/65/16 on a 15" rim it shows you either need a 235/65/15 or a 205/75/15 otherwise the rolling diameter is larger and the speedo will be out by around 6-7% That doesn't say they won't fit, just that there are things you need to keep in mind regarding speed and wheel well clearences.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Revhead Kev)Fri, 14 May 2021 13:47:25 +0000 Re: Oversized Tires on T30? Is there anyone here who has fitted 235/75/R15? Found a set of ATs for 300 but not sure if the exy will run or not. They would go on the stock 15" ST rims. So far the G015s are double the money these Goodrides go for. If I go to $200/corner I'd probably plump the extra for BFG KO A/Ts, so might need to get some more prices first. Still hoping to fettle 215/75s ($95) on somehow. These offer the benefit of working on stock rims, (only the profile is different), are plainly within NSW regulation and the slightly narrower width may work in their favour over your 225/70s. But, they are different tyres, so the comparisons are entirely theoretical. Tyre size -- O.D. -- ^% 215/65 R16 686 mm +0% 215/75 R16 729 mm +6% 215/70 R16 707 mm +3% 225/70 R16 721 mm +5% 225s offer little benefit for my type of 'all purpose' use, am more keen to avoid fouling. No qualms moving plastic cowls or grinding non-structural bits to maintain clearance. Also keen to minimise added unsprung weight. Given that the inner guard is rubbing at +5% diameter and +10mm width, a sensible tolerance is to use 215/70s. There is always a bit of variance in the alignment of the suspension components, plus give in the rubber bushings, and the dark forces of chassis movement can require more clearance than people think when under dynamic loads. Def need to measure up the tyres if I want to try the 215/75, or an 'unproven' type of 225/70. (Wiz_Au and Vadermort above are reporting the Goodride 225/70 worked out). Anyhow, thanks @RevheadKev, it's really good to know some 'fettling' is possible if things get tight.nondisclosed_email@example.com (roid)Mon, 27 Jul 2020 15:11:26 +0000 Re: Oversized Tires on T30? On get a little rubbing on the inside of the left splash guard on full right lock as the wheel compresses up into the guard. This can be fixed by altering the fixing point of the guard. They also make the speedo more accurate and a little more clearance with the increased wheel diameter. Very quiet onroad and rated one of the best offroad behind the BFG A/T and very good puncture resistance.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Revhead Kev)Tue, 21 Jul 2020 18:40:14 +0000 Re: Largest on T30https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2097655,from=rss#post2097655https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2097655,from=rss#post2097655Looked deeper into ideal options for the right semi-serious A/T 'trail tyre' (in my def'n this has to be safe and friendly on the road, this means no muddies and even aggressive A/T's are out). Started looking up-sizing to 17" rims (tyre options for 225/60/17 are $140-$170ea), but given that extra wall is more important (no doubt why so many members stick with the factory 16x6.5" rims, and simply increase the tyre profile up to 75). Far better A/T options in this size too, but 215/75x16 SL369 Goodride A/Ts at $95 each are the most tempting of all. Many muddy options are abound in this size, but as I said, I'm not wanting to add those. The other part of me is thinking the same tyres in 225/60x17 on 7.5" rims would be far better on the road, where a T30 isn't at its best. Far less tyre roll too. A little less profile offroad, but as I'm going to lift the T30 at least 30mm, it could all an exercise in futility. Anyhoo, there seems two ways to go. Any other approaches? Has anyone found any better options before I settle for one or the other? Maybe it is better to increase track up to, say, 10mm. If I find a rim option with a lower ET than 40, such as ET35, this may be possible. Many thanks in advance!nondisclosed_email@example.com (roid)Tue, 21 Jul 2020 11:40:57 +0000 Re: Oversized Tires on T30? Those SL369 ATs look like the right balance for the T30. At almost half the price of a BFG AT, they are hard to go past. Though a 225 will be at maximum bagginess on stock T30 alloys. Acceptable though. Not sure about putting them on 6.5" -40 offset rims. Everyone seems to switch when they max out the tyre sizes. I wonder if 7 or 7.5" would be better, maybe with a slightly narrower -35mm offset to reduce track increase and tramlining. Just got to watch the proximity of the inner guards. Certainly not planning on ever fitting snow chains though ;-)nondisclosed_email@example.com (roid)Sat, 18 Jul 2020 18:54:42 +0000 Re: Oversized Tires on T30? With this 'P' rated tyre, I have not experienced any scrubbing on full lock (I do have a small lift from my King Springs). I have done about 26,000 km on hard sealed and unsealed roads in the Kimberley over the past 2 years (about 30/70 offroad/onroad). They're are pretty much done at this point. I expect you would get at least 35,000 km on more forgiving roads with the occasional offroad foray. Tyres have actually performed beautifully despite the punishment - wear has been pretty even even without me adjusting the camber post coil spring lift. So...VERY decent tyres for the money, when used within their limits. I'd recommend them if you live in less punishing country or only venture offroad occasionally. Other Considerations With that said, getting decent, capable A/T replacement tyres, especially in LT construction in that size can be difficult in remote areas. Most shops only stock H/T tyres in that size. The only 225/70 LT rated ones I could find are BFG KO2s at Toyo Open Country A/T II. And they are not cheap...gonna set me back close to $1,800 for a set of 6!! Worth considering if you run into tyre problems in remote areas. As a side note, I test fitted some Cooper AT3 LTs in 225/75 and a similar 235/70 tyre yesterday. The 225/75 scrubbed on the front inner/rear area of the wheel well at near full lock so that was out of the question. The 235/70 fitted but were really quite tight (about 8mm clearance at closest point at full lock). My tyre dealer recommended against that size. So now I have to choose between the BFG KO2 (have heard negative things recently) and the Toyo AT IIs...Anyone got any thoughts?nondisclosed_email@example.com (Vadermort)Wed, 25 Sep 2019 19:00:22 +0000 Re: SL369 A/T 225/70/16https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2094970,from=rss#post2094970https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2094970,from=rss#post2094970Added the picture of the SL369 A/T 225/70/16 tyre fitted in the original post. They are not very aggressive, but they were CHEAP! To me, having KM2's and Yoko G012's [LT version] on the Pathfinder, these are a "road" tyre, that are a 'bit' off-road. Very quiet on the tar, like a highway tyre really. BFG KO2's would have been a better off-road choice, but they were just so expensive for that size ($1200, vs the $470 I paid for the GoodRides.) It was really a choice of: "This will do for right now, and it won't cost a lot" I have only taken them off-road on formed powder dust and rocky trails (Webbs Ridge in the Brindies), which they handled quite well, but I don't think they would handle 'slop' very well. I ended up airing down to 17psi on the trails to get a good "feel" out of them. 18psi was still like having road pressures on them and 16psi made me a bit nervous I could peel a tyre off a rim and they were 'bagged out' a bit too much. (I've settled on 27-28PSI on the tar.) Sorry, I'll see what hapenned to the pics I took when I got them fitted. As an Ex-Subaru dealer workshop manager, and having worked in mechanical workshops a large part of my life, I would not be concerned about going up a few sizes in tyres on wheel bearings, CVs, and steering components. Those components are well over-rated to handle this small change. Now, lifting 5 inches and putting 36in tyres on, yes, that can load things up a bit too much and would probably require a change of parts.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Wiz Au)Wed, 18 Oct 2017 08:53:53 +0000 Re: Oversized Tires on T30? Even if I managed to get the 4 for 3 deal from Yoko on some older G012's the same size, it would have been over $700. Now that I have them on, and there were some WestLake SL369 tyres in 225/75/16 LT 10Ply sitting there as well, I think I could have put the 225/75/16 in the SL369 'P'assenger on. On paper the SL369 were the same exact size as the Yoko G012, but as you can see above in the picture, I have at least 10mm clearance on the same contact points the Yoko's were fouling on the car. But yes, these are 70 series, not 75 series, and if you compare the measurement data, the 225/70/16 is 721mm, and a 225/75/16 is 744mm. That's a difference of about 11.5mm radius, and I reckon that is dead set right now. The 225/75/16 hit the rear mudguard (but only just) and the 225/70/16 clears it by about 10mm. I sat the WestLake SL369LT 225/75/16 next to the 225/70/16 'P' tyres and there was a significant difference in tread aggressive pattern and squaring on the shoulders comparing the LT version to the the 'P' version of the same tyre. Overall the tyres were about @20mm different in vertical height (23mm by specifications). But I reckon the WestLake SL369 225/75/16 LT tyres would have 'just' fit, maybe touched just a fraction. But I was concerned about putting a 10ply tyre on a little exy! Might be VERY hard to ride in, they are not exactly 2tonne units like Prado's, Patrols and LandCruisers. In the end I think these tyres will do for where I will be taking this car, but it would have been nice to be able to get some more aggressive tyres.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Wiz Au)Mon, 28 Aug 2017 14:25:39 +0000 Re: Oversized Tires on T30? Those people who say they have, so far as I can see, did not fit LT style tyres. 'P' (passenger) tyres have 11-13mm of tread. Some 'A/T' tyres have 14-16mm of tread, the the ones I was trying, in 'LT' (Light Truck) constrction and patterns, have 18mm (some even 20mm!) of tread depth. Thats about 5mm which would make the difference in clearing the guards...it's that close. LT tyres, especially in the 'mud' or aggressive AT I'm looking at, have very square shoulders, whereas the passenger construction have rounded shoulders and will clear the guards better at lock/turn. Just look at the shoulders and the tread depth on the 'same' Yoko G015's above. And then compare these [Hankook RT03 / Yoko G015'P' / BFG KO]. The shoulders are so different it's not funny!: nondisclosed_email@example.com (Wiz Au)Wed, 26 Jul 2017 15:34:14 +0000 Yoko G015 not really "A/T" in "P"https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2094213,from=rss#post2094213https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2094213,from=rss#post2094213Also, while I'm at it....the new Yoko G015 in the "P" version is NOTHING like the G015 in the LT version (of which the older G012 in 'LT' are the ones I know are "good") The 'P' are a ROAD tyre as far as I am concerned looking at both side by side today. Wouldn't be surprised to see similar stories of blown sidewalls and stuffed tyres from people fitting 'P' version G015 tyres to their 4WD and going bush/outback, thinking they have 'A/T' G015's like the 'LT' version. For anyone else that comes along, here's the rundown of tyre diameters; T30 Ti - 215/65/16: 27.0in/686mm T31 Tl - 225/55/18: 28.0in/704mm 225/70/16: 28.4in/721mm (fits on T30, some A/T in 'P' passenger contruction, no M/T, no LT) 215/75/16: 28.7in/729mm (fits on T30 but only H/T and LT van tyres in this size, no A/T or M/T) 235/70/16: 28.9in/735mm (just fits on a T31?) 225/75/16: 29.3in/744mm ('LT' versions rub on full lock - see images in following posts) So what you can see from the above is that a 29in/@740mm tyre is the limit. Which is a bugger as I have a brand new set of 9.5x30x15's Hankook RT03 muddys I would of loved to have put on my newly acquired T30. It's also a bugger as most 16in offroad tyres start at 225/75/16! Oh, also, you need to factor in that a mud tyre will probably have a 18-22mm tread depth, whereas a highway tyre will prob have a 9-11mm tread depth, so the 'rolling diameter' could be greater than what the math calculator says. Always best to check the manufacturers specs.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Wiz Au)Tue, 18 Jul 2017 22:26:30 +0000 Re:https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2093869,from=rss#post2093869https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2093869,from=rss#post2093869I have 225/75 16 And I often think I could get bigger tires on, there is a lot of space, 235/75 16 would be better.nondisclosed_email@example.com (AMLagonda)Thu, 01 Jun 2017 14:53:40 +0000 Re: Oversized Tires on T30? They will also fill out the wheel arch by an extra 6mm which is acceptable and won't rub. You can further experiment with different tyre sizes and the impact they may cause by using the tyre size calculator found in the technical section of our site HERE I'm seriously looking into fitting my T30 with a Yoko Geo AT/S of 235/75/15 as in Malaysia somehow is the smallest size i could find. Can anyone help me in confirmation that this size fits a stock T30 as I'm basing on Jala post that it wont rub. If anyone has actually fit in this size i would appreciate that some enlightenment on it. nondisclosed_email@example.com (jasonwmc)Thu, 15 Dec 2016 18:39:24 +0000 Re:https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2092532,from=rss#post2092532https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2092532,from=rss#post2092532Hi Kev/Guys, Will find out this weekend when I put some load at the back - Have to move some items in the trailer. So I just sit 5 kms under at each speed lolnondisclosed_email@example.com (wprsly)Thu, 10 Nov 2016 09:43:01 +0000 Re: Oversized Tires on T30? The extra profile size to 75 might be a problem depending on how high your OME springs lift is. Possibly look at 215/75/16 ?nondisclosed_email@example.com (Revhead Kev)Wed, 09 Nov 2016 22:24:17 +0000
