Alas, I found that my car has non-universal wedge-shaped bulbs. Worse, here in Rio and even on Google, I can't find the part number for these unusual bulbs. Maybe I should try to find common sockets, cut the wires and connect up. Or maybe you or another Xy enthusiast could tell me which is the right bulb (preferably Philips having seen highly favourable reports on YouTube). One last thing, do you happen to know if the change to LED brake lights would cause the dreaded engine light to come on? I'd be very grateful for any advice you could impart. I have ordered the 3157 sockets and LED bulbs for the mod today. They should be here waiting for me by time I get home from work this swing. I got the 3157 sockets to keep all the bulbs the same. The light I got from the wreckers was from a festiva that had the lenses smashed, the wrecker looked at me strange when I got them, only cost me $5. I'll let yas know how I go in 10 or so days when I get back.nondisclosed_email@example.com (ozstickman)Tue, 14 Aug 2012 09:47:50 +0000 Re:https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2065390,from=rss#post2065390https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2065390,from=rss#post2065390Mine didn't leak, even after ramming the hose with full pressure between the tailgate and the light, and I used no silicon. For a couple of bucks for the sockets, can't go wrong. Keep in mind the lights you buy from the wreckers will have thick plastic where the bulb socket is, where you have to drill the X Trail light is only a couple on mm thick.nondisclosed_email@example.com (cooch t31)Sun, 12 Aug 2012 06:57:16 +0000 Re:https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2065367,from=rss#post2065367https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2065367,from=rss#post2065367You are right Jal. You still make the 25mm or so hole but glue a cut out socket into the hole so the bulb holder clicks in well and doesn't leak. I have been thinking about this for a couple of years but now I got time I am having a crack. But slightly different. I am heading to the wreckers on monday to pick me up any old busted up tail lights from any car as long as the bulb socket area is good. Why? Well I am going to cut a hole in the X-trails tail lights and glue a piece that is cut out of the what ever tail lights for clipping in the bulbs. Make sense?? If not I will have pictures Monday or Tuesday. If you take the cap off there is a steelwool type material and beneath that is a hole. The other hole (recessed) is what you would think to put the globe holder but DON'T. If you do the holder will hit the body of the car when you re assemble the tail light. The new globe should be fitted to the round part of the plastic so when fitted, the holder and globe points up. Ok, i went to put the LED globes in to replace the factory ones, but it turns out i have bought the wrong ones!!! Here is a picture of the back of the T31 Diesel tail light assembly. Note the funky looking connectors at the top, possibly for a factory second light fitting?? Does everyone elses T31 have thes slots at the top? There is a big one, and a little one that has a dust cover on it.. Removing the lens requires a 10mm socket, extension bar and a socket wrench. it pulls out of the clips rather easy. Here is a picture of the bottom half of the lens. Here is how the wiring comes out of the body. Here is the original globe, in its holder This is the holder with the globe removed. Here is the globe. And here are the globes i bought on ebay. I guess they can be used in the second holder, but i would prefer if all the globes were the same. I might put them in the wifes car, or something... Ill keep looking for wedge type LED globes... I found Wedge Type LED lights on brightlightautoparts.com (the same place i got the others). Ill order some and see how they go. They are 18LED White. -dronus Admin Edit: Two consecutive posts merged.
