Poor FM radio reception

I've read all stuff about poor reception on the exy radios, has anyone tried or used an antenna of another vehicle?
I tried the antenna of my wife's car (Getz) and the radio worked a treat but I think its too long and it would get caught in places. So I might go to the wreckers and grab another antenna and see how it goes, has anyone done this what car aerial would work?
