T31 Plastic Bash Plates ( petrol v diesel )

I couldn't find any thread regarding plastic bash plates only steel ones.

I had my 20000km service done today and while I was waiting I was looking at all the new Exy's for sale.
I looked under the TS diesel front end and noticed that its plastic bash plate ran all the way to behind the front wheels.(more like the steel ones you can buy from Jalal)
The petrol version stops in front of the engine sump, 1/3 the diesels' length emoticon .

I wonder why the diesel has a longer bash plate, could it be that there is more that can be damaged to the undercarriage than the petrol?
