So I have access to a plasma cutter and sheet bender that will bend up to 8mm. Does anyone know if somewher that has a downloadable template so I can have a go at making one of these myself? By the looks it is a piece of plate that has a few bends in it and some strategic holes.

Re:

Recently i decided it was time to get a new front bashplate. With the amount of offroading I do, and some of the trips ive been on lately, the previous bashplate just wasn't holding up to the terrain i was driving. I know it was never really designed as a proper bash plate, more of a skid plate. Being quite thin at 1.5mm i think it didnt take getting hit too well. Recently i had to replace the sump as well as it had been bashed inwards.

I always had a problem with the design of it, the way it bolted on at the front. It just stopped in my eyes too short, as when offroading and i bottomed out at all it caught the ground and bent backwards.

The new design which i got custom made comes further forward and bends upwards at the front. Its made out of 4mm steel, so really I shouldnt have a problem with it. At the weekend i went offroad and on a pretty steep sand dune i bottomed out and hit the front pretty hard. This plate hardly had a mark on it. So overall at the moment im pretty happy with it. I guess time will tell.

Anyway heres a photo:

Hi Mants,

The Bash Plate looks good!

I'm looking at the Pedders plate available and am also considering a custom job like yourself.

My question is, where did you go to get it done? Just a standard metalworker? or a 4wd-type mechanic?
Also, what's the cost of getting a front plate custom fabricated? At least, what did you pay if you don't mind.

Hey mate,

I got the plate made in a 4wd fabrication shop. Mine cost $300

Re: Front Bash Plate.

On a recent trip my front bash plate became dislodges towards the rear- it was hanging down. I undid the bolts at the front and removed it.
I personally had not put it on, as it was the first "accessory" I had, way before the lift (so I couldn't fit under) and so just took it to a garage with the instructions.
SO I thought the back of the plate just slotted into one of the holes underneath, but reading the instruction it seems that there were two bolts that held it in.
They are not there now, so can anyone (Jamal?) tell me what size bolts they were?

Thanks

Re: T31 bash plates (Full Undercarriage Protection Set)

Hi Gail,

It's Jalal emoticon

And yes, the rear section of the front bash plate is definitely held by 2 bolts they bolt onto a chassis insert as shown in the hardware pic below:

The bolts are size M10x30 but if you don't have the chassis inserts the bolts by themselves will be useless.

It looks like the garage forgot to fit them or couldn't work-out how to.

Re:

Don't think so, as it was on for nearly 3 years of reasonable use. Maybe loosened for a service?
Anyway will just get new ones I hope.
Could the inserts still be there without the bolts holding them in place?

Re:

If you're lucky yes, but chances are they have fallen off if the bolts are no longer there. They actually didn't need to remove the bolts at all to remove the bash plate as the bolts only need to be loosened for the bash plate to slide off.

I might have a spare set of bolts and inserts but I have to check.
