Jalalski,

Will you be getting any more bash plates in any time soon ???

Not at this stage due to the poor exchange rate of our Aussie dollar. It will cost more than double if I am to import it now, so this will have to wait, but in the mean time, I am looking for a solution locally in Australia and will report back in February.

is there any noticeable difference as far as sound insulation is concerned

Ive only driven to work once with mine but didnt notice and sound difference. Mind you the sound insulation that the T31 has is excellent - with the windows up you cant hear much coming from outside.

The Steel plate doesn't fit as flush as the plastic one around the outside front of the "engine cavity" so at first i was concerned what impact this would have when driving in mud etc (it wouldnt keep the engine as clean) but then on the other foot it will be much better when in sand as the sand will drain out easier. My plastic one seemed to trap alot of sand in all of its nooks and crannies and i had to blow it out with the air compressor. The metal one will be much easier to clean out with a hose.

As Jal said, it has pads on it which stop vibration and hold it nice and tight, it feels very sturdy and gives the appearance of more ground clearance too.

Hope this helps,

Dronus

Full Underbody Guard T31 Petrol

Posted by RomfordIron - Moved from another thread
==================================

This is a tad long winded, but please bear with me.

Took my TI in to TJM yesterday to have new aluminium FUG fitted. New product and has been on order since Dec. Anyway they had the car for about 2 hours and I went back to collect it.

A quick visual in the car park to make sure all looked OK and then inside to settle up. Paid the bill and got in the car. Soon as I started it up it sounded different. Drove out the car park and started to get this horrible resonating sound and vibrations right through the car. Turned around and limped back to TJM. Go inside and tell them problem and they look at me as though I am from friggin' Mars.

Anyways I says "don't take my word for it, try it for yourself". So a VERY short test drive and back into the workshop went my pride and joy. The guy comes to me says the bottom of the engine/sump is touching the FUG and made worse when the engine twists on the mounts under load. "Never fear give us 10 minutes and we will do slight mod to the FUG and all will be OK". I sat inside watching 4x4 vids in their customer lounge area so not too bad. 30 minutes later, off they go for another test drive, they were back in no time. I gave them 5 minutes and then went outside. The salesman standing over the car rubbing his chin and the mechanic lying under the car looking up and shaking his head. They have a quick convo and the salesman comes to me and says the "slight mod" was unsuccessful and they would need to cut a whole the size of a beach ball in the FUG for it to miss contacting with my donk.

Needless to say we aborted at this stage, so while the mechanic removed the FUG and put the plastic guard back, we went inside to process my credit and call the TJM factory in QLD for a please explain. Seems mine was only the third FUG for the T31 they has sold anywhere and of the 3 they had fitted 2 including mine with the same problem The third one they sold cash and carry so when the poor T31 owner gets around to fitting the FUG he is in for a bit of a nasty surprise.

I asked how a product that has not been tested can be released on to the market when clearly there is major design floor with it. They could give me no reply other than lots of apologies for mucking me about. They said they would call me as soon as the design problem has been solved and they had replacement unit back in stock. I won't hold my breath as I think this is a right back to the drawing board job.

End of the day no real harm done and it cost me a couple of hours. No real axe to grind but I have no idea if TJM will withdrawal these from the market. I expect a reputable Company like TJM will do just that. But a heads up to all if you are considering the current new TJM FUG for the T31 Petrol

Cheers

Romford

LOL emoticon

I was at a meeting with TJM headquarters today talking about this FUG Guard for the T31 and the possibility of arranging forum discounts. emoticon

I can't believe that it was mass produced without any test fitting.

I will call them tomorrow emoticon

Thanks for the heads-up mate.

Re: T31 bash plate

Spoke to TJM headquarters this morning and they called the factory in Brisbane who confirmed the design error of the FUG and confirmed that they had 3 returns so far.

The FUG is now with their R&D department for a re-design and they will be advising all TJM stores to withdraw it from sale until this is fixed.

They did ask me if yours was petrol or diesel, so I told them it was petrol, but having installed the previous T31 bash plate on both petrol and diesels I can't see the difference this would make.

You should have told them that they can use your exy to correct the design error and that way you would have scored it for free emoticon

Re: T31 bash plate

G'Day Jalal,

What is the protection and performance like between the one you were getting in and the TJM one. The reason I am asking is I would prefer to get a product that would actually protect than to cut corners.

Out of interest what sort of prices are we talking between the two.
