Track research in the Wattagans

G'day all,

I did some research in the Wattagans yesterday for future Xtrail trips. We were greeted with mud, ruts and rocks that presented a challenge for heavy duty, modified vehicles. On one of the climbs we had to get out a strap to stop a Toyota rolling backwards onto it's roof it was that steep!

Below are some pics

Hi Loafer,

Yes there are plenty of forestry tracks that you can take a standard exy to. There was a number of passenger cars at the Pines campground and other picnic areas. I was looking for a suitable trail similar to the Hunter Range track where you get a variety of terrain and scenery.

We entered near Martinsville which soon turned out to be rutted and boggy. There were a number of small fallen trees that we had to cross. Thankfully the larger ones had been dispatched with a chain saw.

If you haven't been there it is worth a look, there is some nice rain forest and birdlife up there.

Zhivan,

The Wattagans is certainly on my list of desired trips, but it may take me a while to mark them all off. After reading about where members have explored, I am keen to follow and do some trips, too. But there are so many options and just so little spare time to do them.

Thanks for your posts - I really enjoy reading of your experiences (both two & four wheeled) emoticon

(Years ago, we drove our old L300 Express van from Brisbane via Border Ranges down to Dorrigo through some marvelous countryside (rainforests, open fields, dirt tracks) and then back up along the coast with an overnighter at (I think) Indian Head. Great scenery!)
