A National X-Trail Get Together
Hi Guys and Girls,
As discussed in one of the other threads, it would be awesome if we can organize a national get together whereby as many members from each state can make it.
This trip could either be a camping trip or an extended off-road adventure and naturally it would have to take place somewhere central to all states.
It'll take quite a lot of organizing to do for this trip, so I thought I'd start this thread now and we can plan it a head for 2009.
Let's hear your thoughts about this.

Re: A National X-Trail Get Together
As we have quite a few members in Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Perth and Adelaide I am thinking a place which is close to central to everyone ... BROKEN HILL
From here there is a day trip (4-5hrs each way) to Lake Mungo National Park as well as local Silverton, School of the Air and RFDS museum and hangar, not to mention the great old-town architecture.

Re: A National X-Trail Get Together
We also need to consider the best time to have this event and the most obvious choice is during school holidays.
HERE is a list of national school holidays and terms.

jindabyne in summer or winter is a good drive and by the lake could be large enough area for all a bit further south for the queenslanders but.
I can't see Jindabyne being central to all states especially not for those coming from WA

Re: A National X-Trail Get Together
Hi All,
Have done a bit of research to start off with for this trip...
As the crow flys (by google earth standards) the Approximate distances from the State Capitals to Alice Springs is as follows:
Bris 2000km
Syd 2100
Canb 1900
Melb 1900
Adel 1300
Dar 1300
Perth 2000
I have a couple of suggestions:
1) if we are going to do this trip we put an organising team together - preferrably 1 person from each state (I envisage that people will want to all travel in convoy to the meetup). We will also need someone local to do a scout around for a camp over spot (eg local Showgrounds?) that can accommodate us all and the vehicles.
or alternatively...
2) that we start off the national get together in one state and move it around from year to year and have an organising committee based in the designated state who can do the leg work.
Anythoughts...

Re: A National X-Trail Get Together
Thanks Paul,
I like your suggestions and prefer #1 but instead of 1 person from each state, we might as well nominate 3 members for each state to do the organizing on behalf of their state and then the teams (the committee) from each state will get together (via online chat or other methods) to do the ongoing progress report and final check.
After this initial national get together, we may be able to assess the possibility of having a rotating national get together per state for each year or so.
P.S. Google tells me it's 2,767kms from my place to Alice Springs LOL
