Used car three month warranty

Hi all. This is my first topic so be kind!

I bought a 2003 plated ST from a used car dealer with a 3 month warranty. Would it be wise to get a mechanic to go over it or is NRMA inspection the better option?

I've noticed that the bonnet moves a bit up and down whilst driving and is mal aligned slightly to the right.

What sort of things do the warranty cover or dont cover?

Thanks,

Laura

Hi Laura,

An NRMA inspection would be wise as the dealer would acknowledge any findings more than they would from any mechanic I expect.

The bonnet problems could probably be only a maladjusted bonnet catch and re-aligning on the hinges.

Your sales contract would usually explain what is covered by law under the required 3 months used vehicle warranty.

Hi Laura,

An NRMA inspection would be the best thing for you and worth every cent.

I would approach the dealer anyway about the bonnet and see what they say, most dealers will fix something like that as a good PR exercise.

Generally warranties of this nature only cover the main working parts of the vehicle i.e. motor, brakes, transmission and running gear, fuel system but as Kev said, check your contract out and it should give you an idea of what to expect.

Good luck!

Thanks guys, I think it will be worthwhile too. The funny breaking noise in the back needs attention too.

Im taking Ethel to Shoal Bay in December and might have a bash at Stockton, so she needs to have all her bits in the right place emoticon

Heloooooooooo im a girl emoticon

I saw the breaking after i posted and went, ah bugger it they are blokes and blokes cant spell anyhow. emoticon

Okies, the said brAKING noise is more of a; my brakes at the back are grinding noise, but, the guy who put the new wheels on (wheel chainging guy) said that the brake pads are fine. So Im thinking that the brake pad calliper type thing is rubbing on the other bit that the brake pad joins onto and I need that gooey stuff.

Its snot a knocking noise, more of a whoop whoop whoop....

Re: Used car three month warranty

Ok, Inspection report done today....

1. Oil level very high....?

2. Spare tyre fair.

3. Brakes Noisy- Disc rotors heat spots need machining

4. Drive belt has cracks

5. Surface rust under body pannels (ok whos taken my 4wd off roading???)

6. Left front tie Rod end boot split (steering)

7. Oil leakage from sump plug

8. Rear exhaust muffler damaged

9. Left front mud flap missing!!

Plus the uneven bonnet gaps.

Says has had extensive use on unsealed roads and has had repairs to body, but the General mechanical condition is very good.

I've got it booked in with the dealer (Sinclair Ford) next week.

Glad I did this. Worth the 189 bucks.

Laura, and you needed an NRMA mechanical report to tell you that? LOL emoticon Didn't you spot the missing mudflap at the time of purchasing emoticon

What type of body repairs were done? Did they tell you that? Sounds like this xtrail been through hell and wasn't taken care off with all these problems.

If the dealer failed to highlight any of the above damage, especially the body repairs, you have a case against them.

Re: Used car three month warranty

Hi Jalal, Yep you bet I didnt know the front mud thing was missing. emoticon

The colours of the front white grill part look original and the front quarter pan's look whiter, looks like it has been re sprayed at some stage. Nothing structual though which is good.

The part that I am most unhappy with is the bonnett being crooked, that is just so obvious and I cant believe i didnt notice it in the yard. It may have somthing to do with the pannel or re spraying.

yep its not hard to hose off the car after off roading. I shall make sure the dealer does everything possible to rectify this stuff. emoticon
