2nd gear popping out when not under load
Hey guys,
on occasion my x-trail pops out of second gear and into neutral. the easiest way for me to recreate it is to accelerate till about 5,000 rpms in 2nd gear, then let the gear slow me down (don't brake). at around 2,000rpm, it will pop out to neutral.
When i accelerate in 2nd, i can feel the gear stick pull downwards, and when i let it slow me down, i can feel some pressure upwards, which is probably what makes it pop out.
The fact that it doesn't happen under acceleration leads me to believe (hope) that it's not gear wear, but im not sure what it could be.
any help appreciated.
cheers,
Daniel

Re: 2nd gear popping out when not under load
In all the manuals I (and my father & uncle) have driven, we have always been of the opinion that popping out of gear is a worn or out-of-adjustment (shimming) problem with the synchro.

Re: 2nd gear popping out when not under load
Hello,
I have also experienced something like that, however mine is not popping out of the gears (yet). It has that backwards and forwards movement mainly into the forward gears (1 - 3 - 5), very small movement into backwards gears (2 - 4 - R). I had a look at the cables under the gear stick and only the right cable (shifting cable) is moving the gear stick, the left cable (position cable, I think) is not pulling or pushing the gear stick.
I have checked the movement of the engine while stationary, in each gear, and is barely any, however the gear stick is still pushed (the gear knob towards the rear of the vehicle).
Has anyone experienced the same thing or found a way to "adjust" the movement?
Any replays will be very appreciated.
P.S.
