Newbie Question

This may be a silly question.

Is there any reason why i cannot tow my jetski before my first service?

The car has only done 250kms.

I was once told you needed 1000kms on the clock beofore towing.

Thanks in advance.

Adam

Who told you this and what was their reasoning behind it?

Re: Newbie Question

Yes i was told this allso and shown in the manual as they knew i wanted it to tow my boat.
They said 1000k but in the book it says 800km's (page 5-2) break-in schedule.
Cheers
Pete.

Re: Newbie Question

It's just for the break in period - you used to not even be able to exceed 80km/h for the first 1000km because they used to think the engines were too new to put under unnecessary strain. It's the same principle for towing - they don't want you to put extra strain on the motor whilst it is running in and lubing up.

Not that there is a lot of weight in a jetski.

Re: Newbie Question

I was told it is not so much an engine run-in period (as most engines are bench run these days before fitting) but rather a run-in for the drivetrain.

Adam
I started towig a loaded work trailer (700kg) on the second day I bought my exy, it hasn't affected anything. As mentioned, all new motors are bench run so they are good to go from day one.

That was my understanding too, but the strange thing is that it's mentioned in the owner's book. I don't remember seeing this in the T30 owners manual.

Re: Newbie Question

Yes, it's the same engine, but as Kev mentioned, the warning could be directed at the drive-train, which is completely different in the T31 compared to the T30, especially in the CVT.
