Possible Hunter Range Trip (closed)

Hi Guys,

Chris (Dingomouse) has asked whether I'd be interested in doing the Hunter Range track with him at some stage. It got me thinking....would we like to arrange a group trip up there? I've done about 1/3 of the route (it was badly blocked by fallen trees) in 2007. What I saw was pretty nice.

http://img207.imageshack.us/my.php?image=hunterrangehm9.jpg

The trek starts at Putty (about 1 hour north of Windsor) and finishes at Howes Valley. From memory, it's about a 100Km trek and requires a long day. It is, however, the only 4WD access to the eastern edge of the Wollemi wilderness and therefore a really interesting place.

The section of the route I did was rated about a 2 (moderately easy) for an Exy.

It'd be good to go in the next month or so (before it gets too hot). Would anyone else be interested? If so, we can start arranging details of the trek as per the Forum rules.

I remember when the Putty Rd was 4WD ONLY! emoticon

But that was a good 30-odd years ago. Great countryside around there, so the trip should be a good one. Wish I could come - maybe next year when we head down to Orange for a break.

I'm interested Dave.

I cannot find the track in Google Maps. I can find Baker's road to the west of Putty and it meets up with Howes Valley trail to the west of Howes Valley. Are we talking near here?

Re: Hunter Range Trip

Game on.

OK guys, looks like we have enough interest to go for a run.

Dingomouse and Zipidee are going to tackle the Hunter Range and invite any forum members to join us. So, just to confirm, we're talking about the Hunter Range trek from the Boiling Billy book (4wd Treks close to Sydney). The trek starts at Putty and runs for about 100km to Howes Valley. Based on previous attempts at this trek, I would rate it a 2...easy to moderate for an Exy and suitable for newbies.

Please make sure you are aware of the forum rules for these events; http://www.runboard.com/baustralianxtrail.f10.t125341

Now...lets talk dates: At this stage the possible dates for me are Oct 18th and Oct 25th. There may be other possibilities, but lets start with 2 dates and see where it gets us.

Re: Hunter Range Trip

Hi Guys,

Yes I would be interested.

Have not been online or off road in ages as work is crazy at the moment but will be up for this depending on dates.

I will be in Ireland on the 18th, so that's out for me. I get back on the 22nd though so I can make the 25th October, if that's the date that you decide on.

Hi Wendy,

It'll be great to have you join us. Do you prefer the 18th or 25th October?
