Re:
Yes the trip computers aren't very accurate.
I hear you about 6th needs to be longer as well.
My wifes (2010) Golf has a 2.0 litre diesel with a 6 speed manual and when in 6th the revs sit at about 1300 RPM at 110km'h.
Fuel consumption is a lot better than the Xy as well, from a 55 litre tank she can achieve close to 1100 - 1200kms on average.

Re: T31 Diesel Fuel Consumption
Went up to the farm (near Scone) on the weekend towing the camper trailer full of gear. Up the Putty Road and including some dirt roads. Did 10.9L/100km on the way up and 10.3L/100km on the way back.
Also did a trip into Barrington Tops with the camper and did 11.6L/100km through some pretty steep and rough terrain.
Pretty happy with that. Means with a full tank and 2 20L Jerrys I will be able to go over 900km between fuel stops when doing the big trip next year.

Re: T31 Diesel Fuel Consumption
Just had the new TL for a week, and done 1800km at an "average" of 6.6l/100km. Problem is that the numbers don't add up for me....
Fuel warning light came on at 685km, saying "km to empty" as 85. It then clears at 55km to empty, giving me no idea on the rest (yes, I know it is probably not "to empty" but that isn't my major issue).
I filled up 56L at 728km, which makes (within a bull's roar) 7.7l/100km...this is vastly different to the 6.6 on the trip computer. Based on what the fuel consumption gauge says, I should be able to get 960km on a 64L tank if I am doing 6.6 - which is a damn sight longer than 830kms (64L/7.7)!! I would hate to be 130km out on my trip planning...
So what I need to know is, can I trust the trip computer? Logic says no, which is really annoying that a Japanese car with all the gizmos can't get fuel consumption right.
For reference, my previous car was a Mazda 6 diesel hatch, which got 6.0L/100km, and the trip computer matched our filling rates.
Has anyone else found a disparity between what the trip computer says and what their filling history is? Yes, I know it won't be precise, as nozzles go different depths, temperature, yada, yada, my method is I always stop when the pump stops so there is one less variable.
Cheers
Wayne

Re:
Hi Wayne,
I have a TL as well and like most others on the forum I can attest to the trip computer not being precisely accurate. It will give you a ballpark figure but fuel gauges in all cars are a little dodgy and this has a bearing on the accuracy of the trip computer. On some days it is more accurate than other days - totally depends on a lot of other factors including tyre wear, fuel density, fuel temperature, etc.
On another point, though, I would be very careful about letting your Diesel go down to the yellow light. Diesel fuel systems corrode rapidly if any water gets through and you increase your risk of contaminating your fuel system with water if there is any that might be sitting at the bottom of your tank. As a general guide, I fill up at 1/4 of a tank and if I really must go down to the yellow I fill up immediately.

Re: T31 Diesel Fuel Consumption
Update on fuel gauge issue…
Post 1000km service (ok, 1800k’s J ), I reset all the gauges to have a closer look at what is going on. When you combine km’s travelled since reset, with the km’s to empty, it started showing 902km. After shooting up to 930 during another 200kms, it is now calculating 922km on a full tank….weird. I will do updates every couple of days so we get some real time info on what is going on, and my current average is 6.2km/100L, which is consistent with what I was getting with my 2006 Mazda6 diesel hatch.
Will be interesting to see what happens at the end of this tank…
I have asked the question from the Nissan Service Manager, and hoping they get an answer to me, however, post-service it is all looking reasonably normal.
Go figure.

Re: T31 Diesel Fuel Consumption
10% seems excessive as for my petrol version the trip computer usually over estimates consumption .
Inserted Edit: Oddly, my trip computer consistently over-estimates Km/L usage and under-estimates range, but not enough to be of any concern~ maybe 0.3 l/100 Km or 300 Ml/100 Km ~ not significant at 0.3% error rating.
I don't rely upon the fuel consumption range indicator & trip computer as anything more than a general guide.
With my car, when the needle rests in the middle of the lowest red point indicator, according to capacity figures, there are about 5 litres still in the tank when I refill from that "empty" point .
Naturally, not all of those remaining litres are useable.
As an exercise, it might be worthwhile running the tank down to the point where the gauge touches the 'empty' then doing a refill.
That will tell you what is actually left when the gauge indicates that there is nothing - for your car..
At the very least, yours will then be calibrated for you: i.e. your actual knowledge of real fuel level vs indicated fuel level approaching empty.
