T31 nudge bar with lights or fogs.....?

hey guys,

Im probably starting to become a pest with all my questions,
Im very grateful of all the info so far and cant wait to get this all sorted.

I was thinking of getting the foglamps fitted to the new exy
the dealer told me its $700

what i wondered is if they are even worth getting....?
or shall i just go for the nudge bar with driving lights.....?

I basically want to have some better lighting for those nights in the country roads,

Also does anyone know what the nudgy with lights is likely to cost through the dealer (like fogs) and is it something i should have done through them or can it be done easily afterwards.

any info is much appreciated
Cheers

Ben

Re: T31 nudge bar with lights or fogs.....?

Ben,

The fog lights fitted on the xtrails by Nissan are pretty much useless and they can't be even called fog lights, cause normally fog lights are yellow. The ones fitted by Nissan in our xtrails should actually be called driving lights, but even this description doesn't fit them too well, as they don't produce enough light which you can rely on as additional source of lighting.

Depending on where you're located the use of the nudge bar spot lights may not be legal all the time, as they only work with high beam (it is a legal requirements to have them wired-up to high beam only), so in country roads they'll be your perfect aid of course.

There are aftermarket nudge bars for the T31 xtrail which you can see HERE and they're much better constructed than the Nissan "hallow" nudge bar which has plastic bits in it and provides no protection whatsoever. It does look and sits nicer than the aftermarket nudge bars, but that is a personal taste and preference too. If you want to really protect your exy, go the aftermarket nudge bar, if you want it to look pretty, grab the genuine one emoticon

Ben,

Since it's for off road use, you will need as much as possible.

have you consider this ?

It's LED light bar. Check out the review.

Nice but ...
I checked the price on a US supplier's website and the 80 LED 42" unit in the article was $1,600 emoticon plus postage costs.

Ben

I fitted fog lights to my T31 ST after I bought it and they only cost me $318.00, this included the headlight stalk which is where the switch is.
It took me about 30 mins to fit as was easy, the wires are already there and the headlight stalk simply clicks in.

G'day,

I have the standard Nissan nudge bar @$900

It looks great but agree with Jalal that it isn't much protection. If you are serious about protection get an aftermarket bar. Mine is only good for protection against 'lazy touch parkers'.

Re: T31 nudge bar with lights or fogs.....?

I noticed that the genuine T31 spotlights that come with the nudge bar are IPF and a bit bulkier than the Hella's that were on my T30. I drove home last night from doing the Sellick's hill climbs in the new diesel and the difference was noticable. The IPF seemed to have a wider beam than the pencil hellas which inevitably ended up pointing at koalas!

The genuine T31 nudgebar is different in a few other ways too, and looks quite dapper.

The genuine fog lights are, as Jalalski said, not that good. Ill check them out in fog though, but in the mean time the are just for show emoticon

A freind of mine had his fog lights changed to driving lights, im guessing he had to have the wiring changed too.

Cheers,

Thank you so much for your time Jalal. Owe you big time. emoticon

We can have another photo shots after I received the new bulb.

FYI, mine is the 22in model.

Now I have to search around for custom cut protector for the LED bar.

By the way, your jaw dropping sound is still echo'ing in my car emoticon

Re: T31 nudge bar with lights or fogs.....?

I fitted my Cibie Oscars (170mmdiam) to the standard Nissan issue on my T31. While the bar looks good I do have a small but not insignificant issue with the bar.

The nudge bar has cutaways to allow socket access (short or long sockets); however they are insufficient and do not allow socket access to the underneath of the spottie's nut (when you need to adjust levelling).

I find I have had to loosen the bar, make the adjustments and then tighten the bar again.

The only solution I think is to grind out more access for the socket to fit.

Having said that I think spot lights - one pencil and one spread is the way to go, though I understand both lights need to have the same lenses for ADR compliance.
