The only time I heard this happen was with a non airbag compliant nudge-bar. The insurance company asked for a certificate of compliance and refused the claim when one couldn't be produced.

Always has ever since I started this mod way back when.

Well I reconnected the "Key in Chime" alarm, which also disables the remote buttons on the key from operating when the key is in the ignition.
But if I never disabled the "Key in Chime" and "Fiddled" we may never have found out about the headlights turning off when locking the doors. emoticon
At this stage I'm leaving the "key in Chime" active, not knowing what else may be deactivated if you do this mod.
Peter.

There you go!

I do agree with Jalaski et al that it is unlikely anyone will recreate the scenerio where the headlights go off due to this mod + button presses whilst key is in ignition; but Jupitor 2 did!

If this did cause an accident it is probably further unlikely that an insurance company will discover the situation and if they did discover the disconnected connector to blame it on the owner.

I do however feel strongly that people should be made aware of the consequences (likely plus unforseen) of modifying a complex vehicle such as our eXys so they can make an informed judgement and decide for themselves with the best information available.

When you think about it though, this is a really serious consequence of a seemingly simple innocuous modification - what if during Jupiter2's "Lights out" moment someone walked out in front of his car and was killed because his car wasn't visible??

I suspect this is why Nissan spent a small sum on they "Key in Ignition" signal to prevent this from happening; and the chime was an after-thought.

Is there a disclaimer somewhere in this forum about modifying vehicle at your own risk (commonsense approach by anyone anyway)

I would rather not have that annoying chime; but now I know the result of disconnecting this signal to the BCM I think personally I would rather leave it intact.

It's all good emoticon

Yes there and it was posted to you HERE and the official version of it can be found on our main site: www.australianxtrail.com.au

Your concern and warning have been noted and am sure each owner can make-up their own mind as to what to do (or not do) with this mod.

This mod doesn't have the same impact on the T30 as far as I can tell and with the amount of lights I have on my exy even if I press the remote button, I will still have something shining up the road LOL emoticon

Hey Jalal - that's cool emoticon

Anyone who plays with a key that is in the ignition whilst driving, I would say is on a fair path to having an accident anyway.

 . . .

Jupitor2 pressed the lock button whilst at a Red Light - a safe place to do this (I have tried this when, due to ferrals nearby, I felt I needed to lock the doors - but it didn't work and I used the Door master lock switch).

The issue is that the lights unexpectedly turned themselves off some time later and when he was driving again.

This happened because whilst still at the lights he then unlocked the doors with the remote button, but didn't open a door and the car then some time later relocked the doors (and turned out the lights) because it thought "No-one was home" because the signal wire that tells the BCM that a key is in the ignition was disconnected. emoticon

They turn themselves off after about 10 seconds, when the car locks itself, thats it.
I will reconnect my chime after I log out and report back.

Tony,

Do you mean that remote buttons work with the key-in chime plug connected as well?

Jalal,
I just re pluged in the chime and I can confirm that the bittons are innactive (don't work) when the chime is plugged in.
They only work (lock the car whilst running) with the chime un plugged.

I will make a note on the first page of this thread. Can you please ammend it your DIY spread.

Thanks for the confirmation Tony.

First page of this thread has been updated with a warning and I also put the same warning in the DIY Guide HERE

Re: T31 Key In Ignition Chime

Hi All,

I have a T31 Diesel 2010 model and I couldnt find the brown connector to disable the door chime as shown in page one of this thread. Can anybody help?

It is very annoying.

I Succesfully carried out the steering wheel lighting mod on the weekend but i couldnt stop the door chime.

Thanks in advance

The problem is that when you applied for insurance in the first place you would (or certainly should) have been asked the question "have you made any modifications to the car?". If you do not declare the modifications and you subsequently have a claim, and the insurance company discovers that you had non-standard modifications to the car that you didn't declare, then I think you give the company a good excuse to void your insurance... particularly if the modification screws around with Australian Design Rules.

All I am saying is be very, very careful that you are not giving the insurer an easy way out. Because you won't have a leg to stand on in the courts if they decide not to honour a claim.

Re:

None of the insurance companies I dealt with ever asked this question before a claim, certainly not when I was claiming my wife's written off Tiida which was full of modifications. The only time they asked the question if the car was modified was before drafting up a new insurance policy and even then their main interest is that it wasn't turbo-charged or had a loud exhaust system emoticon

I agree however that modifications must not impact on ADR in any way! You must be mindfull of that indeed.
