Re: T31 Key In Ignition Chime

The car will also lock itself if while key in ignition you press lock, open all doors via switch on door. Then get out and close the door and it will self lock after acertain time.
To disengage this, put key back in ignition, lock then unlock car, pull key out.

Re: T31 Key In Ignition Chime

Thanks for the last 2 replies Jalal & Cooch.

Strewth - complex scenerios.

The point being much of this relates to the mere presence of the key in the lock - hence my first remark that by disconnecting the "key in lock" switch (the Key in Chime Mod) there are hidden effects not at first apparent; and that this connector removes a SIGNAL to the BCM that is used at times for the XTrails functionality.

1/- . . . . . this mod . . . must be reversed and the plug reconnected if you are to have a new remote coded for the car.

2/- Cooch's scenerio above (eg the reset sequence)

3/- The "Unlocking all doors" I noticed - but haven't yet reproduced

4/- That annoying Key in Chime

This more subtle than what at first appears to be simply disconnecting a chime switch.

I do hear the message that many have done this mod to no real detriment.

Hi Peter,

Don't disconnet your key-in chime plug if you are so concerned about the hidden impacts. I don't want our forum to be responsible for yourself getting locked inside your exy and not being able to get out emoticon

Re: T31 Key In Ignition Chime

Just did some experiments.

1/- Sit in car and Lock doors with remote - key out of ignition.

Unlock doors with remote and stay in car without opening doors.

Map light comes on and after 10 seconds goes out - another 10 seconds and all doors lock.

2/- Sit in car and Lock doors with remote - key out of ignition.

Put key in ignition (don't turn)

     Map Light comes on

3/- Sit in car and Lock doors with remote - key out of ignition.

Put key in ignition but don't rotate - map light comes on then goes out after a while

Press unlock button on remote (key still in)

Nothing happens as it seems key in lock deactivates key buttons.

4/- Sit in car and Lock doors with remote - key out of ignition.

Unlock doors with remote - map light comes on

Put key in ignition (don't rotate)

Map light goes out after 10 seconds

Doors do NOT relock themselves as before

Someone at Nissan has some well thought out logic incorporated in the BCM here.

I was at a red light last night and whilst waiting for the green, and for some unknown reason, I pressed the lock button on the key, well the doors locked, then pressed the unlock button, and yes the doors unlocked.

Light turned green and off I went, after a few seconds, because no doors were opened,
they locked themselves, now thats not a problem, but, because it was night time when they locked the system also turned off the headlights
, it took me a few seconds to work out what happened, then I had to turn the headllights off then on again.
Cars behind me must have been wondering what was going on, what with the blinkers flashing then all lights going out then on again.
. . . . . etc

Peter

If you read the above quote (plus point 4 of my previous post above) and most of the "Don't fiddle whilst driving topic", it is apparent that by disconnecting this wire under the steering (The Key in Chime Mod) the above will happen should you press a button on the remote whilst driving.

This dangerous event doesn't happen when this Mod has not been done (ie the connection in/under the steering column is intact).

Without the this mod (ie the Key in Chime works as per standard) none of the buttons on the key remote work whilst the key is in the ignition.

Remember this mod may cause an insurance claim to be refused if found to be the cause of an accident. emoticon

I'll go quiet now emoticon

Re: T31 Key In Ignition Chime

Peter,

Let's wait and see what Jupitor2 comes back with after re-connecting the key-in chime plug.

Even if it is caused by disconnecting the key-in chime, what are the odds of someone pressing the lock button at the lights and what for?

Re: T31 Key In Ignition Chime

My remote works buttons work as described with the Key in the ignition and the chime off.
Always has ever since I started this mod way back when.

Tony,

Do you mean that remote buttons work with the key-in chime plug connected as well?

Re: T31 Key In Ignition Chime

Anyone who plays with a key that is in the ignition whilst driving, I would say is on a fair path to having an accident anyway.

Also we constantly hear the phrase "insurance companies will void your claim", now I am not condoning non ADR mods, but has anyone actually seen a real case of this happening on an actual claim with a minor modification or is it one of those urban myths?
