Re: T31 Key In Ignition Chime

Disabled the door chime woo hoo, now I can work on the interior with the drivers door open. It also dosn't affect the 'headlights on' alarm.

Re: T31 Key In Ignition Chime

Whilst I would LOVE to do this Mod, I DO WONDER the full implications of it.

The "Key In" alarm is an artifact of a complex computer Body Management System that also "Talks" to the other control computers in the X-Trail via a Computer Network!!

The Key IN alarm is not controlled by the connector or the switch in the ignition lock that activates when the Key is in, but rather by the Body Management Computer.

The "Key In" switch Notifies the vehicle that a key is in the ignition and then under certain circumstances (engine off, door open etc) the computer decides to activate the alarm.

The "Key In" signal is, more than likely, necessary for some other functions not immeadiately apparent and when browsing the service manual some time ago, I think I read that it is needed for some other funtions.

It may also affect Safety eg There is a Shift Lockout unless certain conditions are met ie Brake pedal pressure, Ignition on etc. Remove this alarm and kids alone in the car may find the key still in the ignition and you can imagine what may result; consider the Insurance implications and the possible ADR violation.

I suggest care and a thorough investigation first before removing this "Signal".

It's a bit like the Electronic Accelerator - that is now a "Request for Power"; the computers decide how to best generate that power and may do so by not opening the throttle, but rather changing the valve timing, changing the injector pulses, changing gear ratio etc etc.

This car is INSANELY complex under the skin.

Can't using fencing wire and sheep dip on this car - RATS (reminicing about my first 48/215)

Re: T31 Key In Ignition Chime

It's just the beeper we are disabling and not the signal of the system immobilizer itself which has nothing to do with the key-in warning chime. I have disconnected mine over 7 years ago and didn't have any problems with the immobilizer or the body mgmt system. In fact the dealer said I have done them a favour by disconnecting it as it is annoying as hell emoticon

The only point of consideration when doing this mod is that it must be reversed and the plug reconnected if you are to have a new remote coded for the car.

Re: T31 Key In Ignition Chime

Hi Jal

Are you sure? I believe that the chime is not being disconnected but rather the "Key In" switch located within the ignition switch.

This switch sends a signal to the BCM that then decides on the chime etc.

I was wrong once before but!

Am 100% sure and if you look in the electronic service manual and trace the route of this plug, you will find it controls the chime only.

Re: T31 Key In Ignition Chime

Had a strange occurrence the other day.

I was driving at night with lights on.

I pressed the drivers door "Lock all doors" switch and they locked.

I stopped at my destination and switched off lights, switched off ignition completely, opened drivers door THEN took key out; and I swear all the other doors UNLOCKED.

BUT (in a slow, very quiet mysterious voice he says) - "I haven't been able to reproduce this - Yet!"

Perhaps I pressed unlock button on key when withdrawing - don't know.

I must say it IS a signal to the BCM as the interior light comes on when the key is removed with the doors still closed; but the consequences of it's disconnection seem to be very benign (in the same very quiet mysterious voice he says) So Far !! emoticon

I have also noticed: If the car is Locked and I unlock with the remote then wait without opening a door - it will self lock again after a short time. This has nothing to do with the current topic though and so I will go quiet now

That is quite possible indeed. Having all 4 doors locked centrally from the driver's control panel is a safety feature, so when the car stops and the driver's door opened first, there is no reason to lock/trap all other passengers in the car emoticon

Yes, that is a standard feature on both T30 and T31 but it will only work if you don't open any door.
