posticon T31 Key In Ignition Chime

I know this has been covered for the T30, but has anybody figured out how to shut the chime off in the T31!
It sounds like it's coming from behind the instrument panel.
I've had a quick look but don't want to venture too far in uncharted territory.
It's driving me nuts!!!!!!!!!!

IMPORTANT NOTE: By disabling the key-chime the remote buttons for locking doors
will operate, so if you press on the remote button accidentally while the key is in the
ignition, the doors will lock. When you unlock the doors (with the key still in the
ignition) and if driving at night, the lights of the car will turn-off thinking that you
have left the car unlocked, so it automatically shuts off the lights. Please consider
the affects of this mod in this particular case and do so at your own risk!

Tony,

Have you tried following the T30 DIY guide and open the steering column to see if the T31 has the same socket which can simply be unplugged? It wouldn't be that hard to remove 4 screws to have a look.

You will prob find its the same as the t30, my mazda was the same as well. I think that its how most cars do it.

Re: T31 Key In Ignition Chime

Jalal
(Thanks for moving this to its rightfull place)

I'll have a look this weekend, ( it's only 2 screws on the t31 ) but I couldn't remember seeing the plug.
My only other concern is that if I disconnect the plug, will the handbrake chime turn off as well?
It's handy in case you don't quit let the handbrake all the way down.

Re: T31 Key In Ignition Chime

I guess you gonna have to try unplugging it to find out emoticon

Will make a good addition to the existing T30 DIY Guide if you can get it to work.

The handbrake chime is certainly a good feature indeed.

Re: T31 Key In Ignition Chime

ALLELULIAH !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How easy was that, no more door chime.
Very similar to the T30 procedure, only less screws to remove.

Only 3 steps.

1. Remove 2 screws under steering shroud, and unclip shroud.( you may have to lower the wheel and pull out ignition cover)

2. Unplug brown connector above ignition key as per photo.
I just sat the plug back in its socket without pushing it all the way in, just incase it rattles.

Image

3. Reinstall in reverse.

Not sure if handbrake chime still works, will let everyone know when I take it for a drive later today.
Happy happy joy joy. emoticon

NOTE
this mod will activate your keys whilst the car is running. This means if you press the lock button and your headlights are on, the car will self lock after say 10 seconds and will turn off your lights. You have to open your door, or, turn your light stalk off and on again to turn your lights back on.

Re: T31 Key In Ignition Chime

Hi all

I just taken the car for a drive after pulling the plug and results are in.

Headlight warning chime ------------------- working.
Handbrake on chime ------------------------working.
Key in ignition, door adjar chime ---------- NOT WORKING!!!!!!! EVERYBODY NOW, AAAAWWWWWWWWW.

I hereby declare this mod a success.

NOTE
this mod will activate your keys whilst the car is running. This means if you press the lock button and your headlights are on, the car will self lock after say 10 seconds and will turn off your lights. You have to open your door, or, turn your light stalk off and on again to turn your lights back on.
