Plus it'll be much safer than carrying petrol inside the car.

Re: Jerry Cans
Then you make sure that your exy is filled-up with petrol until you come back to the van.

Re: Jerry Cans
Sorry Phil,
I for one with kids at the back of my exy will NEVER put a jerry can inside the car, no matter how much that will save me on fuel. Hard core 4WDs do have mounting points on the tailgate or the sides to have the jerry can located externally, but even that is risky like a time bomb in case of an accident.
Safety first is my answer in this regard.

Yeah mate, we tow a petrol tanker behind us here in the city LOL
Don't get me wrong guys, but I can't to see the benefit of having extra 20 litres of fuel in a jerry can with you in the car (on board). OK, so you might save 5 bucks on fuel for a certain distance and then what? How much fuel are you planning to carry on board to last for the entire trip without re-fueling???
In addition to that, the extra weight of fuel on board would offset any savings in terms of fuel cost, as it will impact your fuel consumption.
