posticon Our Forum is now a Premium Board

Dear Members,

I have decided to upgrade our forum/board to be a Premium Board and also support Runboard at the same time through the paid fee for this feature.

This means that logged-in users to our board will no longer see the Google Ads that used to occupy the top section of the main forum page. I got a bit sick seeing all these ads about Hosting, Love matching....etc LOL emoticon

On a personal level, I will be upgrading my Runboard user account to Premium as well and if you do so through our forum (THIS LINK), we will be credited with 10,000 page views for each user that upgrades to Premium through the control panel of our board.

For those of you who don't have PayPal and wish to upgrade their Runboard User Account to PREMIUM, I can accept direct deposit or internet banking transfer in the amout of $16.00 (current PayPal exchange rate) to my personal account and will be able to make the PayPal payment on your behalf and action the premium payment from a link provided in your username profile (see below), so it gets added to your username! Email the Admin Mailbox if you wish to do so ([email protected])

For the benefit of lazy people, what does a premium board offer us over a normal board... and the same for the memberships?

Nath,

Premium Board Details

Premium User Details

NOTE: The premium board membership is only applicable to me as the board owner, but the benefits of our forum being upgraded to a premium board is shared by all of us (not seeing Google ads, extra topics and post views per page...etc)

Re: Our Forum is now a Premium Board

Unless you have changed some other settings Jalal, it appears the upgrade of the forum to Premium has altered the number of posts displayed per page. I am sure it used to be 10 posts per page displayed, but now it appears to be more like 25 posts per page when viewing a thread. I notice this is a feature available when upgrading to premium forum, but was it a setting that was automatically changed or did you manually change it?

Implications of this are that it takes longer for pages to load (only really a problem with threads that contain lots of photos, or for those using dial-up), and the other is that any previous links pointing to a particular page offset might now be incorrect. I have yet to prove the last issue, but did notice that threads that were previously 40+ pages long (such as the tyre thread) are now only about 14 pages long...

Rich, as part of a Premium Board features I am now able to choose the following settings manually:

* Number of topics per page (maximum: 50)
* Number of posts per page (maximum: 30) to display

The majority of the threads in our forum are text based only with the exception of Trip Reports and Members Rides, so the impact to those on dial-up would be the same regardless of how many number of posts per page they view and this is another reason I insist on having thumbnail pics included in our replies instead of full blown versions of them, cause the thumbnail is much faster to load for those on dial-up.

I can control the above settings to be anywhere within the maximum, so if the feedback I receive from you guy says that 50 topics per page or 30 posts/replies per page is too much, I can reduce them.

This is NOT an issue, I have tested that just now with some of the DIY Guides that were pointing to specific replies on certain pages of a thread and they're working fine.

That's good to know Jalal. I was just concerned it might be an issue, that's all.

Re: Our Forum is now a Premium Board

It's a very valid concern Rich and to be honest, I didn't think of it when I changed the settings, so thanks for highlighting it. Am gald it works fine.

EDIT: To avoid any chance of links breakage, I have now rolled back the displayed number of replies per page to the default 10 replies, but have left the number of topics per page at 50, as it doesn't impact anything.

Re: Our Forum is now a Premium Board

Dear Members,

I am sure most of you are enjoying the advert-free format of our forum instead of seeing all these Google adverts showing ways to improve your love life...etc. This has been made possible by paying a fee to have our board made premium and getting page credits for that fee.

Unfortunately these credits expire very quickly due to heavy traffic our forum is generating which chews-up the 100,000 page view credits I pay for every now and then. To help our forum stay as a premium board, I encourage you to have your username upgraded to Premium User and this way our boards gets 10,000 page view credits for every member that upgrades his username and it will also be a great way to support Runboard who are kind enough to offer us this hosting service free of charge.

Re: Our Forum is now a Premium Board

Jalal,

Some other boards have it so that premium members do not see ads where other "casual" members will.
Does Runboard also have this functionality ?

Re: Our Forum is now a Premium Board

Thanks for the suggestion Kev, I didn't want to do that but since the page view credits are running out fast, I have enabled this setting, so now only premium users of our forum will not see ads and the rest will until they upgrade their username to premium user.
