Yeah but you can get the whole exhaust system ceramic coated for less than the price of a stainless system, ceramic coating is the way to go cause it keeps the heat in.

Ceramic coating won't prevent rust mate, so it's money down the drain having a mild system ceramic coated.

Hi Charlie,

That's good to hear. Are you in Sydney on holidays from VIC?

Please use the existing Hi-Tech thread ]HERE to share your views on the system after you get it fitted.

Re: Exhaust

At 2 weeks old and with 2600km on the clock already, Lambros and his crew fitted the Exy with the new exhaust. There is a slightly deeper exhaust note under load, otherwise you can't hear any difference at all over the standard system. Fuel economy is definately improved. One thing I've also noticed after 6000km already is that using Caltex Vortex Diesel improves fuel economy noticeably over ordinary diesel.

Bottom line, I'm very happy with the result and highly recommend a visit to Lambros and the boys in Surrey Hills.

Re:

Just got my exhaust upgraded at Ramp Auto Group in Malaga. The exhaust is cat back replacement with 2.5" stainless steel pipe, Magnaflow resonator and muffler. Total is $1200 built on site and fitted together with a lifetime guarantee. No dyno.

Just done the drive from Perth to Kal against very strong head winds and lots of overtaking and had to refill at Coolgardie (40km west of Kal). Usually I would go all the way to Kal (just) with few overtaking and little or no head wind. Give it a few more return trips and see how the car adapts to the new exhaust.

Sound wise, I can't tell the difference since I didn't drive my car for a month before the exhaust was done and my hearing is not the best. Definitely not loud as I had ask for same noise level or quieter.

Hi T31 Petrol (Manual) Exy owners,

The cat. back system which was fitted to Lachlan's T31 CVT exy is now available to be fitted to one lucky T31 petrol manual owner in Sydney for the cost of materials only.

Hi-Tech would like to measure the gains of the cat. back system on the T31 Petrol Manual and you get to keep the system.

The system will be fitted to your exy at Darlinghurst and your exy would need to have the "before" and "after"dyno done to get accurate figures of the gains.

If interested, please send me a PM.

P.S. This mod will NOT void your factory warranty!

Hi Jalalski,

Not sure if I haven't identified this on another thread but what were the results of this test to the [sign in to see URL] Petrol Manual exhaust upgrade?
And what were the costs, materials and fitted?

Thanks,
Benjamin

Hi Ben,

I looked for it myself, but I can't find it anywhere, which means that we didn't have anyone take-up the above offer and all of the T31 Petrol cat. system we have sold to date went on a CVT powered T31 petrol.

I can't imagine the manual will be anything different but it would nice to know the difference in terms of power gains.

Re: T31 Exhaust upgrade

Hi Jalalski,

Ok thanks for the confirmation.

It is a shame that the tests weren't don't just to assure the results were the same. I'm under the impression that the Petrol models (in CVT and the Manual) have the same engine and therefore should mirror the results? I'm not mechanically minded but would the need for a clutch have an impact on the results?

I would have thought that the need to pay for only the cost of materials would be a good incentive. If I was in Cooee of Sydney I'd consider it.

On another note, I was reading into the modification of the chips. So just to be clear, by installing the cat system as described on this forum (can't remember if it was this topic specifically or another describing the same issue) you wouldn't need to modify any other component of the vehicle after the installation (of the recommended cat system on this site for the CVT Petrol model) was complete?

Would the improvements to the (Manual) Petrol model be significant enough to warrant the estimated $1,000 upgrade (not including freight and labour)?

Lastly, I got all of my last mods completed by a company (that specialised specifically in exhaust, suspension etc upgrades) that would probably be able to replicate the cat system using their own designs and would then be able to fit it too. Would it not be wise to allow this company to create and fit an upgraded exhaust system to my XTrail as the cat system you have worked with Lambros has been proven.

And second lastly (bad English), I've noticed that other forum members (like nananut and another on the previous page to this thread) haven't mentioned using the original design. So what I'm trying to say is that I might be able to get my original modification place to upgrade and exhaust system that will deliver be performance which is designed and fitted by them so that I may save some costs?

Sorry my responses seem to drag on, any recommendations by members would be greatly appreciated.

Regards,
Ben
