Re: T31 Exhaust upgrade

Not quite the same changes in a diesel - probably something to do with the turbo using the exhaust gases anyway? If you go to the DP Chip website it says something along the lines that changes to the exhausts in diesels aren't used at their full potention until you put a chip in because its then that all the ratios are tuned etc.

Re: T31 Exhaust upgrade

I'm just in negotiations with my "Extra Curricular Events Coordinator" to see when we can make it over to Sydney from Adelaide in the T31. Ill drop an email into the admin box when i have rough dates (ill be over for about a week anyway), more than likely towards the end of the year at this stage to tie in with work commitments emoticon

Will see if we can tee something up exhaust wise, or at least make a celebrity appearance to say G'day!

Found out that Calsonic is responsible for the T31 petrol muffler. Here is the pic of my muffler while on the hoist.

Calsonic has been working with Nissan for a long time in motor racing.

Re: T31 Exhaust upgrade

T31 Guys (petrol and diesel),

Hi-Tech and I are still waiting for a T31 volunteer who is willing to spare 2 days of their time and most probably drive to Bathurst to the Hi-Tech factory to enable us to design a cat. back and full exhaust systems for the T31 and determine the gains in terms of power and torque by having the T31 dynoed back in Sydney.

Hi-Tech are extending this offer to any T31 owner who will be able to keep the system on their xtrail for a nominal cost (very cheap of course) and this will also give the owner a chance to drive around with the system and report back any positives and/or concerns until the system is fully optimized.

If anyone is interested, please let me know and I can accompany you to Bathurst and spend a couple of days there with you at the factory, so we can record the progress of the upgrade and ensure everything is done to your satisfaction.

This offer is available to the first T31 owner that puts their hand-up and will not be repeated again!

Re: T31 Exhaust upgrade

Jalal, couple of Q's -

1. Would this have any effect on my warrenty?

2. Your honest thoughts on what results [power, fuel economy, noise] it would have on a Diesel that is already performing above expectations? I like how quiet the diesel is and dont want a noisy drone like my T30 got on the highway. My (very) uneducated guess is that exhaust modifications have more of an effect on petrol engines?

3. Rough magnitude of cost for the system that gets left on the car - need to make sure the budget can cope!

I'm likely to be heading that way over Xmas and the long drive would give some accurate highway stats.. email me if you need any personal info emoticon

Fitting a FULL exhaust system (which includes the extractors) is not advisable for cars which are still under the Nissan warranty. Fitting the cat. back system has NO impact on the Nissan warranty at all.

So, if we're to design the full exhaust system for the T31, I would not recommend you keep the extractors fitted as it may void your warranty, but you can leave the cat. back system in place with no problems.

I can not predict the power gains for the diesel as am not familiar with this engine and who it would react to free flow exhaust system, but I do not expect it would cause any negative results in terms of fuel economy and certainly not the noise level of the exhaust system. The T31 diesel is noisy at idle, but I agree that it is very quiet when cruising, so I don't think this will change with fitting a cat. back system and we can reduce the noise even further by fitting additional resonators in place.

No idea at this stage, as this will be decided closer to the date, but as I said, the cost will be so minimal that practically you will end-up with a top class system for almost nothing!

Xmas and New Year is a bad time to be doing this, as the factory in Bathurst will be closed for holidays until 15th of January, so we won't achieve much in this period.

Hi Guys,

The above offer is still very much open and valid and I am still waiting for the lucky T31 volunteer to take it up and become the first T31 xtrail with a modified exhaust system.

Given that most of the businesses are going through a less busy time at the moment, this will be the best time to jump on board and take up this offer.

Re: T31 Exhaust upgrade

G'day Jalal

I will be in the Bathurst area late July (on the tail-end of our trip). Time permitting (and if no-one else has taken up the generous offer), I would be interested and may need a new exhaust by then emoticon (re your comment on earlier post emoticon ).

Could you please (tentatively) put my name down on the list, but if anyone shows stronger interest, don't hesitate to bump me down the order.
