Re: DIESEL T31 X-TRAIL COMING JULY 2008

Hi All,

I'm also from Perth, and awaiting the new Diesel model...
Here is what I know so far:

Spoke to Emily at Magic as well (pushy little thing, but seems good), she said 'a few weeks'... but that was a few weeks ago... She'll be my preference to deal with out of all the dealers...

Spoke to Ben from Wangara Nissan... He said they'll be getting a few in on Friday... He said that he would call me back regaridng the price, but hasn't (i feel i might be waiting for him for a while lol)

Spoke to Duncan Nissan and Canningotn Nissan as well... Both dealers said 2-3 weeks...
The first rough quote was from one of those two dealers (can't remember which one), and it was $1,000 more expensive than the unleaded version... (for the TD/Ti). Apparently they have them in Australia, but there has been a stuff up with the approval plates? Dunno if it means anything to anyone...

I haven't spoken to Vic Park nissan as I've had a bad experience with them before... (woulldn't use them even if they were giving them away for free!)...

With the drive away price for Ti ($39,000) I'm not sure if I could wait for the diesel model to come in (esp,. if there aren't that many)...

What do you guys know so far?

Re: DIESEL T31 X-TRAIL COMING JULY 2008

Vanja,

If you waited that long, I reckon you should wait for the diesel to come out so you can test drive the petrol and diesel and make a decision on which one suits you best. It'll be good for you to compare them both and 2-3 weeks isn't a long time to wait, but I might get to test drive the diesel before that and put a full report together. Am not sure why is taking them so long to release it and every dealer seems to be waiting for them to come in. The dealer am going to has ordered 6 of them.

Re: DIESEL T31 X-TRAIL COMING JULY 2008

It's our plan to test drive the autoi Ti (again) back-to-back with the auto TL, over the same roads on the NSW bank holiday (Mon 4th August). That's provided the dealer has a diesel demo available by then. We will have to be blown away by the torque of the turbo-diesel to go that way what with the price of diesel and also the relative hassles of only having a couple of pumps at every (city) servo dedicated to diesel. The prospect of any engine larger than 2.0L in this climate is also a factor in the TD's favva.

I'll give a drive report should the above eventuate.

Keep safe,

Ade

Re: DIESEL T31 X-TRAIL COMING JULY 2008

Hi Ade,

Having test driven a diesel in the same class as the T31 diesel and also in the same bracket range of the reported torque, I highly doubt we will be "blown away" by the increased torque of the T31, but I do believe this will be noticeable during towing where the higher torque will play a major role.

Ade,

If you really want to notice the torque of a TD then test drive a manual version, not the auto as these are more likely to downshift rather than stay in gear.

Re: DIESEL T31 X-TRAIL COMING JULY 2008

Well,

Just got back from the Dealers after test driving the NEW TL TD X-trail.

Two words. FRIGGEN AWESOME.

The engine, which was very quiet for a diesel, had soooo much torque it was awesome. The ride was sooo smooth and quiet, you wouldn't know it was a diesel, except the engine rocked!! Pretty good takeoff, the only thing I didn't like about the drive was the very grabby clutch. You didn't have to release it much for it to grab and the car to take off. The dealer said they could probably loosen it up.

So, in short, 10 outa 10. I haven't driven a petrol one, so I can't compare, but it looks like we have found the car for us, even if it hard to get and more expensive than the petrol.

So am I the first on this site to drive one??

Cheers,

Chris.

Re: DIESEL T31 X-TRAIL COMING JULY 2008

Wicked!!

We actually had to wait for two other couples to have a go first.... It's cold, wet and windy here in Perth tonight and there was no one at the car dealer.... except for the people almost queueing up to test drive the TD Xtrail.

You know the cars gonna be popular when the salesman says "Gimme a call when you're ready to buy, I'm not gonna chase you, these things are gonna sell themselves."

He's right, there is nothing in the price range or class with a diesel engine, except the Grand Vitara(which aren't that Grand).

Hope everyone else gets to take one for a spin soon.

Cheers,

Chris.

Re: DIESEL T31 X-TRAIL COMING JULY 2008

TL manual was a smidge under $45K.

I doubt there was much room for discount. Probably get a towbar, Roofbars and cargo matt thrown in.

Still, a Pathfinder is $10K more.
