ECU reset on T31

I have just fitted the K&N air filter and need to reset the ECU. Is the procedure for this any different than for the T30 and are the fuses in the same place? I notice there are three fuses attached to the battery positive terminal and wondered if these are the ECU fuses??

Re: ECU reset on T31

Hi John,

The ECU re-set procedure would be different for the T31 for sure, but we haven't yet found a process for it yet and I couldn't even have a look at the T31 fuse box when I looked in the engine bay of the T31 as it was somewhere down the bottom and covered by the air intake.

If you take photos of the fuse box, fuses and fuse box cover showing the definitions of each fuse, we will work it out together.

Other than that, your ECU will re-set (self adjust) itself within 3-4 days of driving with the K&N.

Re: ECU reset on T31

Thanks Jalal, I just took another look at the "fuses" at the battery positive terminal and they are actually fusible links and there are not three but four. So, I guess they're not the ECU fuses. I'll drop the air intake tube off this afternoon and check out the fuse box, it appears to remove quite easily.

Re: ECU reset on T31

No worries John, as soon as you show me what type of fuses are in the fuse box, am sure we will be able to work it out, as the service manual I have is a bit vague in this regard and I'd rather see the fuse box in the flesh.

I am also initiating a couple of enquiries about the T31 ECU re-set from my end and will see if I get a response.

Re: ECU reset on T31

Jalal, I had an interesting time trying to get my head around imageshack today without much luck (no 11 year old boys in this house...lol!) Here is a link where you can download the pic from "yousendit.com".

http://download.yousendit.com/14E23F030D0F1572

There are two fuse boxes hidden under the air filter inlet pipe. The pic is of the larger of the two which is not all that easy to access (have to take it out and upend it). The pic size is over 11 megabytes but is quite detailed. The smaller fuse box doesn't relate to anything like what we are looking for.

Re: ECU reset on T31

Thanks John,

The reason you were having problems with ImageShack is the file size of the image you were trying to host, as ImageShack has a limit of about 2-3MB and your file was over 11MB in size emoticon

It is large because it was saved as a .bmp file. I have just converted it to .JPG file and it has reduced in size to only 383KB

Image

The fuses look no where near what we have in the T30 with the main two ones that seem to stand-out from the rest are the ECU ones, but one is labelled A/T ECU and the other is ABS ECU

I'll look at them tonight and compare notes with the service manual.

Looks like the ECU Re-set for the T31 will not be the same at the T30 at all.

Re: ECU reset on T31

Wondered why the file was so big??!! Sorry about that, I usually save as .JPG but I must have hit the save button without selecting any options and it defaulted to .BMP! I was wondering if the ECCS fuse could be involved.... perhaps "engine control computer system" ?? Anyway, this is day three since the K&N filter went in so I guess it's all purely academic now but we'll have to know at some point how to reset the T31's computer.

Re: ECU reset on T31

Hi John,

It's good that I got you online, as I have been researching this for the last 3 hours and have questions.

The fuse box you posted, is that in the engine bay or the internal one under the steering?

I have just located fuse boxes on the net for the T31 and the look a bit different to what you have showed me, so I just wanna make sure that this was the only fuse box you did find.

Here is a pic of the engine bay fuse box for the T31 I found:

Image

Here is a pic of the internal fuse box I found for the T31:

Here is the explanation for the internal fuse box:

Here is the fuse box cover (internal fuse box):

I will have a look at what this ECCS means in the manual. I think it's Climate Control.

Re: ECU reset on T31

Jalal, there are obviously three fuse boxes in the T31. Your first pic is the forward box in the engine bay. It is mounted beneath the air filter tube and is immediately in front of the box I photographed, which seemed to be the box most likely involved with the computer. It's also the hardest box to access. So the box I referred to is in the engine bay. Note that the top left hand fuse in my box is A/C Comp which I would think may be the climate control system.

Re: ECU reset on T31

Oh mate!!!

After many hours looking for the answer and when nobody had an idea (even the Sentra guys in the US) I finally found the ECU fuse emoticon

You were 100% correct with your guess John, it is indeed the ECCS 20A yellow fuse as shown in your pic. Mate, I can't believe how Nissan made the information so difficult to find in their service manual for the T31!!!

Image

Here is how I found the answer:

I traced the power supply of the ECU and saw this note in the service manual:

Image

From there I traced fuse position number 62:

Image

Compared this position with your pic and found the ECCS fuse description emoticon

So basically you need to follow exactly the same process as the T30 quick ECU re-set and instead of pulling 2 fuses (like it was the case with the T30), you just remove this 20A ECCS fuse for the T31.

John: I wanna put a detailed DIY Guide for this for the other guys, but I need your help with taking pics of how you actually got to this fuse box, so if you could do that again and take steps by step pics, I will create a DIY guide accordingly.

Mystery solved emoticon
