How much did they charge you Glenn?
About $800 for the parts and labour. Plus I had the 90k service on top of that.

Re: Grinding noise from left front wheel.
Yeah it does hurt but when you put it in perspective the Exy has been fantastic! Had it since new and never had an issue. So a little hiccup every now and then is not such a big deal really.

Re: Grinding noise from left front wheel.
Hi Guys,
Just got an email through the admin mailbox from an owner of an 8 months old exy with only 8,000kms on the clock which had a front left bearing failure as well.
This problem seems to be getting worse and is now affecting newer models with low mileage as well.

Re: Grinding noise from left front wheel.
Jalal,
Can you get details on if it had any off-road trips or not ?
Maybe the driving use might have something to do with the problem.

Re: Grinding noise from left front wheel.
Kev,
I highly doubt that off-roading will have anything to do with it, if I go by what I have done in my exy since 2003 (on and off road), my wheels would have fallen off by now, let alone the bearings
I suspect it is directly related to the way these bearings are compacted and manufactured.

Kev,
Mervyn responded to your question with the following email just now:

Thanks to replying to the email I sent you . In the 8000km the vehicle has done .the vehicle hasn't been put into four wheel drive yet but I do tow a bass fishing boat of 4 mtrs long and weights about 500kg all up but the only water I have been through was the flood water that was over the road about a month ago near nowra and kiama. When the vehicle is in for repairs next Thursday I will ask what caused the bearing to fail, seal failure or the bearing itself , will keep you informed for your information.

Re: Grinding noise from left front wheel.
Just came back from the dealer and picked-up 2 front bearings for my next service.
Part Number: 40210-2Y000 (BEARING ASSY-FR) suitable for Ti and ST T30 xtrail.
Price was $114.00 each incl. GST
As advised previously, the bearings made by NTN-Japan.
The guys at the dealership think that the cause of such failure with these bearings is the grade of grease used in its internal parts which seem to dry-up after a while. They also agreed with me that it is best changing them at the 100K service, even if they're not making any grinding noises as yet.
