Re: T31 servicing - every 3mths?
Only thing I can add to this is my recent experience on oil changes.
As I was very busy, I let my 100k service slip out past 105k and noticed that the noise of the timing chain on startup was louder than normal for a few seconds.
This said to me that the oil was thinning out and needed changing.
So 15k seems to be the max life of the standard oil in the Xtrail and I expect the 10k service interval makes sense to make sure no undue wear happens.
Maybe with a better oil you can stretch it out.

Re: T31 servicing - every 3mths?
We don't know what sort of grade oil is being used in France and where they're getting it from (refineries), so it's not logical to compare an overseas service intervals to ours here in Australia. I have seen many different service schedules for the T30 models and they vary between one country and another.
As to servicing other cars brands every 12 months of 15,000kms, yes, it can be done, but I bet these guys get charged accordingly when they take their car for servicing, as every service interval they go to will considered a major service, hence the cost will probably be the same as our 6 monthly service interval cost.

Re: T31 servicing - every 3mths?
Hi Ray,
I simply refuse the idea of measuring service intervals by months or a time period and always take my car for servicing based on the number of kms traveled. In the 6 months period one could only drive 1000kms or so if not using the car much and despite what dealers say about oil loosing its viscosity and the rest of the crap, I can't see that being 100% accurate if there was no load on the engine at all in the period the car was parked and not being used.
While we are forced to comply with the terms of the Nissan warranty (while under warranty) and their requirement to service the car every 6 months or 10,000kms (whichever comes first), I got away with proving to Nissan that the oil was changed in this period by myself or a qualified mechanic and only take the car to them after traveling 10,000kms. This has maintained my warranty without being impacted.
Now that I am out of warranty, nobody can force me to service my car sooner than I think it should be serviced and based on my style of driving.

Re: T31 servicing - every 3mths?
In relation to servicing - the interval is also based on fuel quality. Australia for many years has had crap low quality diesel (in particular). The fact that we have only in the last few years gone to low sulfur is a major reason why we are only now getting the high pressure fuel systems like CRD with the economy and performance benefits.
After the 1000km check, I have a sticker for a 5000km service and my reading of the service manual then appears to show:
Heading
3 months or 5000km - Nil
6 months or 10,000km - Replace Engine Oil (& filter) at 5000km/6mths (for M9R engine)
9 months or 15,000km - Nil
12 months or 20,000km - Replace Engine Oil (& filter) at 10000km/12 months (for M9R engine)
The service book is a real PITA as it appears to cover Nissan Patrols (Y61 - ZD30 engine), Navaras (D22, D40) as well as the XTrail and probably more too.

Re: T31 servicing - every 3mths?
And to add to this.... I was talking to a tradie recently - who drives an Iveco small truck/van.
The service interval on these is 40,000km.....
His work van had just been in for its service - and these guys are based out of Launnie and do work statewide in Taswegia, so he reckoned he would do 60K pa. minimum.
Equally, after replacing ABS sensors etc, he said the total service costwas $4K, of which about $3K was warranty work, due to replacing ABS sensors etc
So I reckon where Aus is it is with service periods and specs. But if I was to push the oil change periods I'd get full used oil anaylsis done to check on the readings and numbers by CAT or similar who run labs to check this.
