Thanks for your replies.

Looks like I have the answer (going up and down) so I'll give it a go and let you know how it went.

Re: T31 4X4-i System

Hi,

Just to add my only experience on this topic (unfortunately I haven't done any real off-reading yet-emphasis on yet) regarding the hill/decent ascent button.

At the on-laws I was trying to reverse my Exy up a steep hill (concrete driveway with a nice bend half way up) I didn't get the right turning angle to park in front of the garage doors. I rolled forward on the clutch to the edge of the garden bed before needing to continue to reverse up. I'm pretty confident in saying that the Xtrail held on the hill (facing down) before needing to reverse up the hill.

So just wanted to clarify (if it hadn't been made apparent yet) that hill ascent (braking) assist control also works facing 180 degrees too.

While I tried using the hill DECENT button to go down, but didn't have the confidence or belief in the system and simply kind of clutched coasted down in first with brake (can't remember about 4WD lock but assume I would have used it as I used it on the way up in reverse).

On a side note, smoked the clutch trying that manoeuvre but it needed to be done. Tried avoiding it as much as possible but it happened. The next time I visited I offered my F.I.L. to reverse an empty box trailer up as I had no confidence in the clutch not smoking. Well I swear you couldn't burn anything on a bbq to get the same smoke. Not impressed but I don't think there was any damage done. So end result he used his V6 TD auto Pajero with no problems.

A lil off topic, but hope my 2 cents helps someone :-)

I found the previous pages to this thread very helpful and look forward to hitting up the Qld beaches over the next few weeks.

Cheers,
Ben

Re:

Ben, you need to be completely off the clutch when using hill descent and need to be in 4x4 lock. Feels weird and makes sounds but after a few times, you'll get used to it.

I've found the Hill decent system to be fantastic, specially when your on a loose gravel / rock surface, the car brakes evenly all around and brings you down at a perfect speed.

Re: T31 4X4-i System

Somewhere in the beginning of this thread Daniel brought up the 10second hold of ESP disabling button. But then there was never posted what Nissan's final say on this was.

So my question is:

1. Is there really a difference pressing or holding down ESP disengaged button and if so what action should be used for what situation.

2. Can ESP and TC be turned off completely?

3. Do ESP and TC always come together?

PS: Can the T30 (without ESP) be upgraded to have ESP? (with Canadian Exy parts?)

Thanks
Menno

Jalal, what do you mean?

quote:

That's good info about the T30 All Mode 4x4 system, but it works differently to the All Mode 4x4i in the T31, mainly due to ESP capabilites in the T31 which are not available in the Australian T30 models.

The drive train for T30 is as below.

Is the drive train for T31 any different?

Re:

Yep it's more advanced in the T31 and has been refined by Nissan.

Can you show me a diagram like above or explain how it works from gearbox to wheels (mechanically)?

Re: T31 4X4-i System

Jalal,

Thanks, to me that looks very similar though...except for T30 not having the ESP and TC. The motor and gearbox is mounted the same way, probably with a differential in it the same way a T30 has since the transfer case is also similar. And then the rear clutch/differential is also the same set up. The parts are probably not interchangeable, but the drive train setup and how all it's components work look exactly the same to me?

Much appreciated!
Menno

PS, my research is to prepare a X trail T30 or T31 conversion to full electric
