Towing in hills in extreme heat

Just returned to Adelaide from Goolwa via Cape Jervous.

The dash outside temp peaked at 42 C quite a few times on the way home.

Towing a Cub Kamparoo with the Air Con on full.

Even towing uphill coming out of Cape Jervous, Rapid Bay and Second Valley in second, didn't move the engine temp needle from normal.

I thought my 2005 X-Trail Auto was gutless until a travelling companion in a Falcon with camper also said he was in second to get up the hills.

X-Trails rock :-)

Yeah, the xtrails' cooling is pretty sh1t hot.

But its the gear-box heat that I'd be worried about. That also seems pretty solid too!

Re: Towing in hills in extreme heat

I have fitted a 6Cyl Tranny cooler to mine.

I have towed my bike trailer (7x4 enclosed trailer with bad aerodynamics) from Adelaide to Coffs Harbor and back.

I have done a few trips with the Cub Kamparoo in summer some in very hilly roads.

The Transmission is still happy with no warning lights or burnt oil.

Or the water temp gauge even moving from normal... :-)
