Re: On car wheel balancing

Nope Kev, the car had the wheel alignment done and it was and still is perfect in this regard.

Re: On car wheel balancing

I had exactly the same problem on a Citroen Xantia back in the UK Jalal, the factory wheels (all four of them) just would not balance, it drove the tyre centre mad!! They were a real specialist place too that did a lot of work on performance cars, they had never seen this before.

Basically, they would balance the wheel on the machine, take it off, turn it 1/4 turn and put it back on, it would then be significantly out of balance again! They could keep doing this until the cows came home.

I even persuaded Citroen to replace them and the new ones were the same! So I gave up and ordered a set of aftermarket rims through the same tyre place, they arrived and guess what?? Same issue!! They ordered another set and finally they were ok.

I never did work out what the reason was but my theory is that the back of the wheel centre that sits against the machine is not completely flat, so each time they fitted it on it would sit at a slight angle on the machine and give a different reading. Same when it was fitted to the car. Just a theory, never had the wheels checked to confirm it.

Re: On car wheel balancing

Well, I went to the tyre place last weekend and had the front balanced, now the front are fine and the rear wheels are our of balance LOL emoticon

These chrome babies are driving me insane emoticon

The guy doing the balancing said something about the front wheel getting too hot, I told him that I thought all front wheels get hot due to braking and things like, even my 16" factory ones.

Anyway, I asked them about the on tyre balancing and they said they had the machine years ago and it was more expensive to do the balancing on the car rather than the current dynamic method and it wasn't as accurate.

Re: On car wheel balancing

This is starting to drive me insane!!! emoticon emoticon emoticon

I am getting the damn steering vibration again at 100kms/hour!!

Had the rear wheels balanced and the front were fine as well.

I am starting to wonder if this balancing problem is attributed to the recent front discs machining which was done 2 weeks ago??

Is it possible that the front discs lost the round shape because of an incorrect machining? Although I have never heard that such a dodgy disc machining can happen, is it a possibility?

I am 2 weeks away from my QLD trip and I can't get these damn wheels to balance and am sure this will drive me crazy during the trip, as I hate to drive an un-balanced car.

Re: On car wheel balancing

Why don't you put your other wheels on so you can eliminate it being anything to do with the alloys you have on now and they're associated balance etc. If the other wheels are fine then you know it's something to do with the brakes... ?
