Well, I've read this thread from start to end. I'm still undecided about which full bar to fit to my T31 X-Trail. I've narrowed the choice to the two offered by ECB, and the Tuff Bar. Planning to use the Nissan as an all roads tourer over the next few years, and with my experience as a National Courier servicing the Mining Industry vehicle protection is a must.

At the moment I'm leaning towards the ECB Big Tube Bar. I realise it'll be a throwaway job after a severe animal strike but hopefully the vehicle will still be mobile. And that's the whole point I reckon. An all steel bar would be a better option but I doubt the X-trail's front end is strong enough to support the extra weight and survive a decent impact.

I had steel bars on both my previous work utes, and the most recent one on a BT50 4X2 'bounced' many large 'roos out of harms way. The Cobar region is thick with Skippy's cousins. Does anyone have any long term feedback on the ECB full bar products? I have never had a vehicle with an alloy bar. I was driving a Company Iveco dual cab ute when we struck a big red male just north of Katherine in the NT last year. It came out of the scrub at full speed and the Iveco caught it mid hop in the centre. Destroyed the alloy bar completely and knocked out all light apart from parking light. The ute was still driveable though. I reckon that roo weighed at least 120 kg and were doing about 95km/h at the time of impact. It's easy to say to travel slower but with a 9000km round trip with urgent parts on board time is critical. Happily I no longer do that work, but the Australia I saw during my time in that role gave me a taste of our real Outback and the desire to see more of it!

Hey, ive had a ECB Big Tube Bar on my xtrail since May 2014, i havnt hit anything with it yet, but as far as the bar itself is, i think it looks great, it holds my led bar firmly and is a nice touch that it has the led side lights and indicators along with fog lights.

I also spoke a fair bit with the guys from ECB through email before buying and have to say they were very very helpful with any questions i had.

Received the quote on the Tuff Bars today. Am going with the ECB Big Tube bar in polished. They make a very good product at a very competitive price. emoticon

Re:

Yeah best choice I think.

The tuff bar wouldn't be too good for off road as it's very square design.

Plus looks wise too I don't think it's a very nice design.

With the ECB bar at least it looks decent and the way I look at it, if you do struck a roo it will bend but at least it's the bar that bends and not your radiator that's busted and you can still drive hopefully.

I went for the hammertone colour as it tied in nicely with the colour of my Xtrail.

Re: Nudge Bars & Bullbars for the new X-Trail T31

Hi William,

I know another Xtrail Forum Member who has the Tuff Bullbar version on the front of his Exy. He has expressed his satisfaction for its ability to take roo strikes many times. The initial cost upfront is excessive, but the long term save on less insurance claims is the big positive.

I couldn't provide you with the clearance of the Tuff Bulllbars, but I've seen first hand how they can drive up rough dirt trails without faulter at the significant dips in the road. If you are looking at doing excessive hours driving in rural Australia, especially at night through western Qld where I frequent, you wouldn't go wrong with the security of a Tuff Bullbar and roo strikes.

I personally own the 63mm nudge bar by ECB, as I rarely drive out of my rural town of Mt Isa. But when I do, I have plenty of candle to light the way and pick up the Roos during my night time drives (as I havent seen many at all during the day). It is a very strong bar, but does not cover the whole front bumper. My bar serves what I need it for. I'm still looking to put it even more lighting accessories on mine, though it might become overkill.

My best recommendation is for you to think of the long term gains if you can afford it and it serves your purpose. I'm aware that mine won't last if I hit a roo, but I don't travel outside town much. Also, if you intend on putting spotlights (whether halogens or better yet HIDs) and a LED bar (like a few have including myself), with a UHF too, then it would be a good idea to ask the manufacturer to weld additional tabs for peace of mind.

That's my opinion anyways, best of luck with what you decide,
Ben

Re: Nudge Bars & Bullbars for the new X-Trail T31

Thanks for the feedback Guys. I paid a deposit on the ECB big tube bar today in polished alloy. When I was driving the outback for a living I couldn't choose what time I was on the roads, more often than not I was west of Orange after dark every trip. I'll probably fit a pair of Great White LED spotties or maybe another LED light bar like I had on the BT50. I found the 6000K light was great in wet conditions emoticon

I was a little concerned about the extra weight over the Nissan's front end but from what I've read here it actually makes the vehicle feel better on the road! emoticon

Re:

Hi guys,

After 6 years of having my Boris, I've only just noticed that when the factory nudge bar was fitted, they have fitted it a little low which prevents me from screwing in the towing hitch.

Any advice on what I should / could do ?

I only bring this up because I've never used it as its never had to be towed before.

Re: Bullbar

I have the nudge bar on the front. Roo strike last night (does full moon make it worse?) and the driver's side lights etc are gone, bit of mucking around but drove it home. NO radiator damage. When it's repaired it's getting a proper bullbar. I need to be able to mount 2 HF antennae on the bar, that's my only unusual requirement.
We don't have many vendors close by, so I'm not sure what my reasonable choices will be.

There were quite a few mentions of the ARB nudge bars in this thread, but most people seem to have something from the ECB range.

Does anyone here have the ARB bar? [sign in to see URL]

Oh also, can anyone with the ECB low loop 76mm bar comment on whether it has affected clearance?

Re:

I'm a big fan of your nudge bar setup!
Do you know if there was any cutting of the bumper required to fit it?

Unfortunately the other half isn't too keen on the loud aftermarket options so I might end up with the factory bar.
