Re: Non Nissan servicing costs (T30 & T31)

Just had 10k service at UltraTune Castle Hill. Cheaper, faster, friendlier and closer than Nissan in Blacktown. $145 for the service, supplying my own oil. Highly recommended! Nissan quoted me $315 for service including oil, so easily saved over $100. Don't really care for the extended warranty anyway. Don't want to spend the next six years having to deal with a dealer emoticon

Re: Non Nissan servicing costs (T30 & T31)

Non dealer 70k service done on our T31 today after Nissan bent the shaft on my mates Navara alternator when changing a belt, said it was like that when it came in and tried to charge him $2500. When he replied he was a panel beater of 20 yrs, machinery operator for last 10 and knew what he talking about they gave him his keys.

Total cost was $127 inc fuchs cfx oil and filter, no air filter. 1 hr labour total.

No charges for ridiculus stuff like wiper fluid, fuel system cleaner, misc etc. Enviro levy was $3 and oil filter $11 as opposed to Nissans $25ish for each from memory. Didnt pay $80 per hour for an apprentice to black my tyres either.

thats just bad in all respects, and is a prime example of why dealer servicing (in some locations) can be a joke
Glad you got a good deal, and know what to look out for emoticon

Re:

I had a oil change at 2000 klms I did this as i was going on a 4000+ trip and didnt trust leaving in oil for 10000 for a diesel, it was done by ultra tune $140 (oil and filter) I did check the Inv. when the car returned It had on it Oil 4 litres + filter , i rang them asking is that the right amount of oil, and they said YES the Xtrail dosent take much. I asked them did they read the Nissan specs? because it quotes 7.5 litres of oil,,,, Oh they said bring it back and we will fill it , Dah So much for there TV advertising. Lucky i checked as i wouldnt have wanted to travel 4000 ks on 4 litres of oil and try to get warranty.

Did I hear you guys mention somewhere that:

Only Nissan Coolant is to be used as any other can cause problems to do with casting sand left over from the engine block manufacturing.

The Nissan Coolant somehow prevents the sand from causing damage.

Re:

Peter

If you want to use a non Nissan dealer mechanic for your services, you can purchase products yourself from the parts counter at your local dealer and supply them yourself. Most mechanics have accounts there and use genuine parts or other consumables when specified by the customer or if no equivelent is available.

With non dealer services I personally have found advantages such as you are talking to, in most cases the person with grease on their hands from working on your car, not 3rd hand info from a desk jockey. They are also not restricted in the use of genuine Nissan parts or can purchase a part that is made by a company for Nissan. A good example of this is a non Nissan mechanic can supply and install a Hayman Reece or Genuine Nissan towbar or different brake pads/rotors where the Nissan Service centres are more restricted.
