Audio Sleep Timer

Now here's a clever idea...found it today on the grocery getter (Ford Focus).

The audio system (single CD, AM/FM) obviously will not work without the key or key in the "acc" position...or so I thought.

Seems that - without the key in the ignition at all - you can push the on button, the display shows "1 hour" and the systems plays for that time and then shuts down...sort of like the sleep timer on your household radio.

First time I ever saw a system like that - - any of you guys encounter it before ?

Wonder if the X-T system could be "jerry-rigged" to work like that....

Cheers

Does the radio then work a (2nd) time after the first shutdown? emoticon

YUP - push the button again and you're good to go for another hour - how sweet it is....especially when you've left the keys in the house.

Cheers

Re: Audio Sleep Timer

Hi Roger, (sounds) like all we need is a large capacitor in the 12volt line in with a diode to stop sending voltage back down the line. Maybe the electrical boffins who are online, could devise such a plan of attack. emoticon

Re: Audio Sleep Timer

Gee Bob, seems like you discovered how the Power Window Relay Timer circuit actually works emoticon
I'll look into it emoticon
Won't be the button on the stereo though but a separate one in the dash, otherwise when you switch off the ignition the stereo will keep going and you would have to switch it off separately everytime you get out of the car because the timer circuit would keep the power on emoticon

Re: Audio Sleep Timer

Hi Kev, Just a thought, if the stereo is normally off & one must press button to make said stereo work with ignition on, then when ignition is off as per Roger CanadaFarEast, pressing stereo button with a suitable capacitor installed that would allow radio to work for 1 hour. A timer circuit as you suggest would still work the same way methinks. emoticon That said, for maybe an hour at max,due to people tending to forget to turn off radio, do not want a blat flattery emoticon emoticon

Re: Audio Sleep Timer

Australian company redarc sell a very simple relay that has a adjustable delayed "turn off" timer incorporated. So if we can just relace the standard nissan accessory relay & with it, you can adjust it to stay on for up to 1 hour. I might also suggest one to replace the power window relay for those times you go to jump out then relise you have left a window down. Here is the link to there website, product number is TIM05. I will get some costings on it if anyone wants to go further.

Mark.

Ooops, forgot this:
