It is true that the larger V8 and XR vehicles tend to overheat if run hard, but in smaller non-turbo engines, there are no benefits.  IT'S ALL ABOUT - 'INDIVIDUALITY'. nondisclosed_email@example.com (BRETT72)Sat, 25 Aug 2007 15:00:09 +0000 Re: Painted Valve/Rocker cover.https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2004027,from=rss#post2004027https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2004027,from=rss#post2004027quote:BRETT72 wrote: general consensus is that the engine cover traps heat and causes a little loss of power. I think it's just a myth and if there is any truth in it, it only applies to high powered engines, not 4 cylinders, so the Sentra guys are fantasizing and we're more than happy to pick their engine covers for a bargain LOL The power loss you mentioned has NOT been measured by anyone claiming this as far as I know. I certainly didn't notice it driving around with the engine cover for ages.nondisclosed_email@example.com (jalalski)Sat, 25 Aug 2007 14:14:00 +0000 Re: Painted Valve/Rocker cover.https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2004026,from=rss#post2004026https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2004026,from=rss#post2004026quote:Jalal said,  Why would paint the engine and then cover it?? I have been researching the overseas sentra/qr25de forums and the general consensus is that the engine cover traps heat and causes a little loss of power. This is also supported by the HSV forum. The Police also remove the engine covers off the Ford XR vehicles, for the exact same reason. So, on the open road it will be removed to show off the 'red block'. But offroad, I will add the cover to help keep grit, water and dust out of the sparkplugs. As mentioned in another thread, it is all about 'INDIVIDUALITY'. nondisclosed_email@example.com (BRETT72)Sat, 25 Aug 2007 13:43:16 +0000 Re: Painted Valve/Rocker cover.https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2004025,from=rss#post2004025https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2004025,from=rss#post2004025Another thing Brett, Since you're running with a new engine that is still under the nissan warranty, you gonna have a hard time proving to Nissan that it is the same engine should anything go wrong. hehehehehe Sell the cover mate and keep the red engine. It looks nice the way you have painted it.nondisclosed_email@example.com (jalalski)Sat, 25 Aug 2007 13:33:28 +0000 Re: Painted Valve/Rocker cover.https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2004024,from=rss#post2004024https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2004024,from=rss#post2004024I like the red look works for me but as jalal said I would have "bean" happy with just the red look no cover. Now I have a another mod to do thanks Brettnondisclosed_email@example.com (Dave4x4)Sat, 25 Aug 2007 13:29:42 +0000 Re: Painted Valve/Rocker cover.https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2004011,from=rss#post2004011https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2004011,from=rss#post2004011Brett, Sorry mate, but I don't get it LOL Why would paint the engine and then cover it?? At first I thought you didn't have the engine cover and this would have been a nice look like it is, but then I saw you put the engine cover on and thought...why go to the trouble of making something really nice and then covering it up completely I think you should have painted the engine cover instead. But hey, the mechanics at Nissan Orange will love it for sure. hehehehe nondisclosed_email@example.com (jalalski)Sat, 25 Aug 2007 11:56:06 +0000 Painted Valve/Rocker cover.https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2004008,from=rss#post2004008https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2004008,from=rss#post2004008It may not be to everyone's liking, but boredom makes you do strange things. With some spare paint laying around the garage, I decided to spray my valve/rocker cover with the same red as I used on my front recovery hooks and the brake calipers. It was a relatively easy process, but the silver NISSAN lettering ran a little due to the low temperatures. I used about 10 coats of red engine enamel and then gave the same amount of coats in a clear lacquer topcoat. If anyone has seen the 'Bean Movie', you will know how I felt when the silver lettering started to bubble when hit with the clear lacquer. I think I panicked like he did also. If you haven't seen it, I strongly recommend it. So, what would I do different if I had my chance. Don't lacquer over the silver paint. Make this the very last step. I would also choose a warmer day to spray, as the cold temp does not help in the curring process. I also used the clear lacquer to cover my aftermarket engine cover to make it nice and shiney. Sorry about the dirty engine bay. Complete DIY to come... nondisclosed_email@example.com (BRETT72)Sat, 25 Aug 2007 11:23:05 +0000
