Jumping out of top gear

 emoticon
Just took delivery today of my new secondhnd exy. Compared to the old HiLux it's a rolls royce, I'm not used to such luxury. One small question, on the way home trundling along at 100 k's in cruise control it jumped out of fith gear. Is this common or is it indicative of something sinister wrong with the trany?
Otherwise I'm very impressed. I can't believe they havn't made them illegal.

Re: Jumping out of top gear

Sorry can't help with the 5th gear popping out (although I do remember the same problem with pulsars).

What are you specifically referring to when you said "I can't believe they haven't made them illegal"???

Re: Jumping out of top gear

Yeah, Given my experience with rebuilding Hi-Lux Gearboxes it is a bit suspicious. One of them used to do it until I put a kit through it. Never done an east west engine box before so if that's the problem it lokks like I'm about to learn. Everything else seems to be OK though.

Re: Jumping out of top gear

Hi Les,
You should have this covered by the statutory dealer 2nd-hand warranty if it was not disclosed on the sales slip.

Re: Jumping out of top gear

It should cover major mechanical faults, of which jumping out of fifth gear because of a worn synchro to be one of them.

If you don't ask, you'll never know.

Re: Jumping out of top gear

That's true. I've just checked the paperwork and there is a clause saying it is to be in a reasonable condition as regards to it's age. Anyway I'll give it a few days and see if happens some more. if so i'll take it back and see what they say. It has done 123000 k's
