posticon Personal Details Display in Forum Posts

Hi Guys,

Lately I am starting to notice some of the posts containing personal email address, phone numbers and rego plates.

The forum rules are very clear in this regard and the following information is not allowed to be included in any of your posts on the forum:

1. Personal Mobile and Land-line Numbers.
2. Personal Email Addresses.
3. Rego Plates in any of the photos you post on the forum

This rule has been put in place for your own privacy protection and to avoid any nasty type of emails, phone calls and visits to your place.

You need to realize that this is a public forum, so not only registered members of our board are viewing these details (which is completely fine) but strangers will see these details too.

I don't want to take the chance for our forum to be responsible in any way, shape or form for any type of abuse and/or misconducted as a result of these personal details being displayed and I would appreciate your full cooperation in complying with the above.

The forum offers each registered member of the forum the ability to communicate with other members of the board using the forum PM (Private Message) and Email (Private Email) features, which are located in your Control Panel. Please make use of these features to communicate with one another.

At no point you should be asking a member or forcing them to give you their personal details. This will be considered a direct violation of our forum rules and if reported to the Admin Team, will result in immediate disciplinary action against you and may result in your forum account to get terminated.

Please refer to the Forum Rules in the top section of every forum page.

Thank you for your understanding.

I do understand this rule, but i feel we should have the option of showing plates. Im not really bothered by my plates showing and I am aware of the risks.

I dont really like having to go through all my pics and blank out the plates then have to have each pic saved on my computer twice

I would like to see this rule "strongly advised" but not forced

Thanx

Re: Personal Details Display in Forum Posts

Matt,

Although I agree with your thought on this issue, a recent story has changed my view.

On another 4wd orientated forum, a Patrol owner proudly posted some pics of his rig, helping out at the recent Stockton Beach cleanup. Here was a great pic of this lifted beast towing out two car wrecks. Well, this pic was seen by a member of the 'pedestrian council', who promptly forwarded it on the RTA. The following week, the RTA tracked the owner down and issued a defect warning on this modifications.

I know he should have engineered his mods, but that it not the point. Have any of us engineered our vehicles, since lifting, lowering or enhancing.

Every vehicle which has been tweaked can be defected. Every vehicle which goes off-road, can have it's insurance or warranty voided if this aspect is not included in the policy.

IMHO, it takes less then a minute to blank out the plates and for peace of mind, well worth doing.

I'll step down now and leave this debate officially open for discussion...

Re: Personal Details Display in Forum Posts

Matt,

I'll tell you another story which is a bit closer to home!

A member from our forum (an ex member, as he's no longer active on the board) had his exy stolen and taken to pieces.

His first reaction was that his exy got tracked down and targeted through our forum because he posted pics of it with rego plates visible!

I don't want to put our forum through such cases where you can have even the slightest doubt that your car got stolen because of the pics you posted on our forum.

As Brett correctly stated, it takes less than a minute to edit out the pics and blank out the rego plates, if you feel it is such an inconvenience, please forward the pics to admin mailbox and we'll do them for you.

I'm not sure why you would save these pics twice on your computer, because the edited pics (the ones you post on the forum) can be hosted through ImageShack and sample and deleted from your hard drive.

This rule will stay in place and I would appreciate if members can abide by it

Thanks Matt.

I should also add that this rule includes signatures and avatars!

The only email addresses you can see on the forum which are part of the signature are the ones Noel and I use advising members that they contact us through the admin mailbox email address.

We have no objections if members will decide to put a link to their personal website in their signature and have all these personal details displayed there. It will be your choice to do so and a risk you will be willing to take.

I don't want to stir up the pot any more than necessary, but how far do we enforce this rule?

For example, most of the photos on my own webpage don't have editted-out rego plates, and I have a direct link in my sig to my own webpage... There is also contact details (email address links) on my webpage...

I have no control over your personal website and the information you choose to display there, so it is your choice. As long as you don't display the information on our [sign in to see URL] fine with that.

Re: Personal Details Display in Forum Posts

Dear Members,

I would like to publicly thank Camoo (Cameron) for sending an email to the admin mailbox and notifying us of rego plates being displayed in one of the posts, except the interesting part was it was my exy and I was the guilty party of not editing my plates emoticon

I am not above the forum rules and I would like to thank Cameron for his attention.

If anyone of you sees more pics of mine where I displayed the plates or forgot to edit them on the forum, please drop me a line.

That is what I call Team Work!

Well done mate.
