Ringing noise

Hi all. My X-Trail 2.2 DCi is creating a ringing noise at around 58 kph and sometimes when taking off from the lights, etc. Sounds liks someone ringing an outside phone bell or something.
Has anyone else experenced this or have any ideas?

Re: Ringing noise

Unfortunately we do not have the 2.2DCi over here so we will have to leave your question to one of our international members who have one, namely Dave (chops11) in the UK.

Re: Ringing noise

Have you left cans tied to the back from a wedding or something? emoticon

Dodgy injectors? Timing out? Have you used a new fuel recently?

Diesels are commonly more noisy, but you generally get a knocking or hammering noise from them as opposed to ringing.

Might just be some loose brackets on the exhaust or muffler that only make the noise at certain resonances with the engine. There's a thread somewhere which explains how a lot of the petrol models experienced this problem.

Re: Ringing noise

Another possibility and if you do have "active" kids in your neighbourhood is that they might have decided to fill-up your muffler with some stones emoticon

Give the muffler a couple of kicks and see if it rings back.
