Re: Roof Mounted Awning

Found some black coated aluminium angle, with holes already done along whole length at Bunnings. Looks very similar in finish to xtrail, roof rails. It lies against the luggage rack pretty well, and I am just looking for the best way to clip it to the luggage rack passenger side. Have looked at pipe clamps, but these are a pain to screw up each time, to put it up. Anyone aware of a quick release clamp that will do the job a bit better?

thanks Martin

Re: Roof Mounted Awning

Someone started a new thread today on side awnings but it was closed so i thought I would reply here. I have the ironman 2m x2.5m. It fits the t30 well. Also comes with a built in LED light strip. I did purchase some sand pegs so that i can use it on the beach too.

I have the Ironman 2.5 x 2.5. The built in light strip is brilliant!

On another note... watch out for those branches! It can happen to any length awning. emoticon

Re: Roof Mounted Awning

thanks ian, havent had any branch trouble yet. I was worried that the 2.5 x 2.5 would be too long on the car but have since thought that i should have just got the bigger one. bigger is better hey?

i like the fact that the ironman comes with lights built in. wouldn't be hard or expensive to add later if you didn't have it though.

cant wait until the dry season starts up here in broome so i can get out camping

Re: Roof Mounted Awning

I purchased the TIGER II 2M x 2.5M which was on special. I was tossing up between that and the 2.5M x 2M. which is a bit longer along the side of the roof rack but narrower.
Anyway, intending to purchase a 2M wide RV tent to butt up against the awning so thought a 2M wide awning was sufficient.

A 2.5M x 2.5M would perhaps have been "better/roomier" but they weren't listed as on special.

Have used the awning a couple of times and it does the job I want...also have large sand pegs for the sand.

cheers

Re: Roof Mounted Awning

the rv tent would be a good addition to the awning. did you purchase side walls for your awning. i didnt bother as i think the setup will start to become too involved

Re: Roof Mounted Awning

Didn't buy side walls as such but did buy the screen surround to keep the flies out. A bit fiddly attaching it on my front lawn to test and haven't used it since.....may in future but otherwise a bit of a waste at the moment.
With an RV tent for shelter I could easily slap up a suitable lightweight tarp to whichever side needs protection from wind blown rain or sun when sitting under the awning........RV tent for sleeping,

cheers

Re:

Ok bit the bullet- have ordered the 2.5 x 2.5 on special.
Was a bit concerned about how easy it was going to be to roll it up by myself...will let you know.
Went the bigger one as more shelter if swagging it.

Suppose now I need a platform to attach it to!
Gosh Strez is going to look like a proper Xtrail very soon.
