Wire gauge on stock head unit

Does anyone know the gauge (AWG) of the cable that powers the stock head unit (the double din 6 cd changer) in the series II X-Trail?

I´m working on a carputer and need to know if the stock wire will handle the power consumption. If it does, it will save me from upgrading the wiring.

I searched for "wire", "gauge", "awg", etc. but found no posts with that information.

Cheers,
Carlos

im not sure of the excact guage, but its only small, i doubt it would handle anything drawing to much power.

I ran all new cable when puting my tv in just to be sure.

I´m going to be pushing 10 amps MAX... and I read here that you can use 12 gauge wire with 10 amps up to 17 feet.

So if the stock wire is 12 gauge or better, then there is no need to change it. Right?

Just for anyone else out there that might not already know - the smaller the AWG NUMBER, the LARGER the cable emoticon

ie: 2AWG is about the thickness of your finger, while 8AWG about the thickness of a pen...

There is probably various scanned or text versions of current ratings for different AWG sizes floating around the net but I'm not going to go searching for one - being heavily involved in car audio many years ago I probably even have a copy of it, but it would be easier to find it on the net again than start looking for it on my backup CD's...

Yes. I know that much. emoticon When you installed your audio system did you notice if the cable was thicker than 12 gauge?

What I need to know is the rating of the stock wire, in order to know if I need to go with a thicker one or not.

Thanks,
Carlos

Hi Carlos,
If the fuse sizes are anything to go by, there is a 10A supply from the ACC at terminal 10 and 15A supply direct from the battery at terminal 6.
These fuses only supply the audio, navigation (if installed) and the phone (if installed) so I would hope the wire sizes could carry the rated fuse current.

I might power the screen of the ACC line (it consumes 0.5A), and the rest from the 15A line. It should be ok then.

Thanks for the info.
