Sorry if I'm repeating myself; I thought I'd already replied to your post. I'm wondering whether you ever got the shift knob off? I see references elsewhere to destroying the leather covering to get it off. Seems wrong to me.nondisclosed_email@example.com (arwie)Thu, 05 Dec 2019 13:49:21 +0000 Re: New Gear Shifthttps://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2097122,from=rss#post2097122https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2097122,from=rss#post2097122Hi Jalal. I know this is an old thread, but did you ever get the shift knob off? I've seen suggestions of destroying it to get it off. Surely that wouldn't be necssary?nondisclosed_email@example.com (arwie)Thu, 05 Dec 2019 12:27:04 +0000 Re: New Gear Shifthttps://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2026381,from=rss#post2026381https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2026381,from=rss#post2026381eBay nondisclosed_email@example.com (jalalski)Sun, 05 Apr 2009 17:08:02 +0000 Re: New Gear Shifthttps://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2026378,from=rss#post2026378https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2026378,from=rss#post2026378This shifter looks great. Even the Nissan dealer had no idea about the process of taking it off because they have never done it and suggested that it comes as one piece with the transmission itself. I was so angry that I got this gear stick for so cheap and it was SO nice, yet I couldn't fit it. It was snapped-up from me on eBay straight away when I sold it You have done the hardest mod there is mate and you should be proud of this achievement, because it was NEVER done before Thanks for your help and look forward to the pics. Now that my car is a bit older, I can afford to break things OR force them to move. hahahaha nondisclosed_email@example.com (jalalski)Wed, 07 Nov 2007 17:28:09 +0000 Re: New Gear Shifthttps://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2006216,from=rss#post2006216https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2006216,from=rss#post2006216Yes that’s true jalal…I had exactly the same problem like yours 1st have to unscrew your S.K (sorry I forgot to tell) its located at the front of the S.K itself… 2nd u have to push the Release-Lock pin while u removing the S.K stick from the console (its located inside de console close to the stick) Even u do so…its still very hard to take it off...but at that time I was like ‘arghhhhhhhhh its been a whole day and u still not moving at all even a lil bit!!!’ LOL So I pull it very hard just like when u want to tear down your X-Trail LOL (I know we don’t do that…its very hard to do it specially for X-Trail lovers like us LOL) And wallaa….finally.. That’s why I really enjoy my S.K now based on that experience LOL ohh and also with the price ^^ I don’t have the pict off the process...even I didn’t have a thinking to get some picts at that time…it was mess up LOL But ill get the pict of my old S.K ..may bee it will give u some ideas… Rite away after I get home tonite jalal nondisclosed_email@example.com (bebhoo)Wed, 07 Nov 2007 14:59:08 +0000 Re: New Gear Shifthttps://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2006200,from=rss#post2006200https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2006200,from=rss#post2006200Thanks Alan, the reason I ask is because I know how hard it is to do this mod. I have imported exactly the same gear stick for my AUTO transmission and myself as well as a car electrician spent 3 hours dismantling everything and we just couldn't work out how the factory gear stick can be released from its place. Everything is plastic over there and seems to come in piece, so we gave up and I sold this gear stick, although I really wanted to have it. So, if you show me (with photos if possible) how did you managed to remove the factory stick from its place and replace with the one supplied in the kit, it will be very helpful to me and others who want to do the same. So nope, I can't say it is just "plug & play" far from it nondisclosed_email@example.com (jalalski)Wed, 07 Nov 2007 05:00:48 +0000 Re: New Gear Shifthttps://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2006198,from=rss#post2006198https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2006198,from=rss#post2006198basically it is just plug and play...but practicly..its much harder than that... u have to get the whole console off under the shift knob to get the O/D wire conector and the Release-Lock Pin 8( to take of the console under the shift knob: ull fine couple screws at the back of the console for the 1st step after that u have to take off the consoles beside the A/C panels to get other screws after u finish with the console..u will see the O/D conector (its hard to see because it is in deep inside uder the shift knob stick T.T) release the O/D conector release the lock pin to take the shiftknob stick off after that... get the conector done and put the cable inside the new stick..it comes in a package with the new S.K (i dont use this stick..so i just use the S.K..i like this look the S.K is just rite on the console) after that get the S.K and the stick together.. and finally put everythin back to normal ^^ ohh well i try my best to explain it step by step LOL but its really hard LOL anyway..im very wellcome for questions nondisclosed_email@example.com (bebhoo)Wed, 07 Nov 2007 04:53:57 +0000 Re: New Gear Shifthttps://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2006144,from=rss#post2006144https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2006144,from=rss#post2006144Very nice indeed mate. I have tried doing that before and I have scored a really nice shifter that had the over-drive button as well but me and an auto electrician just couldn't work-out how the shifter stick can be removed, as it all looked like one plastic piece going directly to the transmission. Even the Nissan dealer had no idea how to remove it.nondisclosed_email@example.com (jalalski)Wed, 23 May 2007 10:27:27 +0000 Re: New Gear Shifthttps://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2000882,from=rss#post2000882https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2000882,from=rss#post2000882Shifter in, looking good. Photos will be up on the weekend! The change over was really easy and only took about 45 minutes. The longest part of the process was removing all the trim to get to the shifter plate. The wiring is a bit different as well, but all I did was swap over the wiring from my old shifter to the new one. The change is purely cosmetic, but it's nice to have something a bit different (read special). The actual change is exactly the same, just a nicer looking gear knob. All up cost $150 shipped.nondisclosed_email@example.com (AKAK47)Wed, 23 May 2007 10:17:22 +0000 Re: New Gear Shifthttps://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2000832,from=rss#post2000832https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2000832,from=rss#post2000832Hey Andrew, this thread should have been started WITH photos LOL We're still waiting for you to show us the grill you scored from Japan nondisclosed_email@example.com (jalalski)Mon, 21 May 2007 11:51:46 +0000 New Gear Shifthttps://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2000827,from=rss#post2000827https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2000827,from=rss#post2000827Just arrived from Japan is my new GT gear shifter.
