High End audio for the Exy...

All,

Just thought I'd show you a few photos of an xtrail in the works at the moment.

I will be doing mine like this except with a slightly different midrange/tweeter combo in the dash.

I'll update it along the way so you can see the progression.

Enjoy. emoticon

Wood.

Here is the first pic, showing the beginnings of the pod, just a few rinigs and some hot glue

In the car, testing the fit, had to modify it a bit

Nice one woody, would be great to have details of an audio install posted here.

What gear are you using?

Re: High End audio for the Exy...

At this point in time, I will be using Dynaudio speakers, Image Dynamic Subs, and Alpine amps and Head unit. With all the little add-ons including digital tv tuner, digital processor for 5.1 surround, rear view camera etc the expected bill should be around the $17K mark....

I'll add another update for the above pics soon...

Looks excellent and probably sounds even better than it looks.

Did you need to remove the windscreen to install them? emoticon

How many subs are you going to have?

Regardless of subs, do DYN's have 8inch shallow-mounts? Stick them in the front doors with a heap of sound deadener and you'll be laughing.

Are you using the Alpine PXA-H510 (or whatever has superceded it since I last judged a car with it years ago)? Nice piece of electronics, that is... I had the PXA-H600 (pre-5.1) in my previous 2 cars.

Looking forward to more pic's!

Fella...

Your way behind the times...

The pxa-h701 digital processor that i'll be using was superceeded by the pxa-h700 several years ago... emoticon

At this point it will be 2 Image Dynamics 12's. Mounted in custom fibreglass boxes in each rear corner.

Making and installing the pods was done as is. Nothing serious is needed to do a job like that. The Dyn 362 three-ways have a 7.5"ish mid bass driver which will be mounted in the door where the standard one is. There will also be some custom fibreglass work around there as well.

The trail pictured is only having those fronts done whereas mine is getting the works.

I'll update the pics tomorrow.

Re: High End audio for the Exy...

Hi guys,

I'm about to purchase a new 2006 model, living in montreal canada.

I want to replace the stock radio. Its a dually with 6cd and cassete, witha mp3 aftermarket player. What cage and wiring harness would be required?

Thanks

Is there a online diagram available here?

Re: High End audio for the Exy...

Hmm, not the pretiest install but a good attempt at keeping the boot space useable.

My thoughts:

1. Is there enough air capacity in each box for speakers of that size?

2. I would be worried about anything I put in the boot sliding into the speakers!

3. Those amps look like an afterthought!

Re: High End audio for the Exy...

Yeah...

Im not keen on the second rate install like that...

Mine will be something of a similar fashion but definately alot more detail than that. Theres gonna be alot of fibreglass and gloss black paint.

My front end is almost finished. The dash pods are done and the doors are almost finished. Everything will be painted a nice gloss black for that simple yet impressive look.

Once the fronts done and the wheels are fitted, i'll start a members ride thread so you can check it all out.
