Damage done by number plate covers

I have put some custom number plates on my Exy, the number plates that were on the car (Stock standard ones for Vic) when I got it had number plate covers around them, over time grit had build up behind them and has ground the paint work off to the shape of the cover in spots, and you can see it around my new plates which are smaller than the damaged area. When I find the cable to my digital camera I will pop some pics up.

What can I do to fix this?

Andy,

I presume the visible marks of the number plates are on the tailgate, as the front ones are hardly noticeable.

THIS accessory may be your answer.

Hay I like your idea, can't fix it, Cover it emoticon

These pics were taken after I had taken the plates off and hit it with the water Jet at the car wash.

The same sort of damage was done to the top as-well, just that the pics didn't come out to well so I didn't wast time hosting them.

Ouch mate, this is a deep one indeed. It must have been caused by those metal clips holding the number plate protector so it won't fall off.

Cover it mate, or it's a re-spray job.

The good news is... you won't have to do a total rear door respray. Just that one indented section. The spray painter can blend from there.

Re: Damage done by number plate covers

I took the plastic surrounds off as soon as I got my exxy; and I noticed that the rear number plate being attached only at the top rattled against the tailgate along the bottom edge. A small square of double-sided mounting tape behind the number plate holds it steady - and away from the surface.

Re: Damage done by number plate covers

Yeah I had the same problem with my lancer, mind you it was due to the two 12 inch subs I had in the bootemoticon. But I did same thing, padded the top sides and bottom with foam and tape and didn't have any troubles after that till the subs rattled the rear view mirror off, but thats another story.

Hey

This exact thing happened to me when i changed my plates to slimmer ones... got exactly the same mark as you mate. I didn't bother about covering it up, but it does look pretty bad.

Cheers

Matt
