Their service seems to be improving Tony. Check the dealers feedback thread.

Re: Malfunction Indicator (Dashboard Engine Warning Light)

Thanks for everyone's feedback so far,

I have the service manual and only just noticed the link to the detailed diagnostics for the Engine Control Unit. I think Nissan is stuffing me around into fooling me they have been working on my car. They have had it for 3 working days now. From looking at the service manual if i had the consult 2 i reckon i would have come to their conclusion in maybe 3 hours. (They needn't even check voltages separately as it should be displayed on the consult 2)

At least now i have ordered a tested ECU for them that will possibly solve the issue and if not then the only other answer to conclude would be wiring harness or wiring loom as already mentioned.

If they are stuffing me around and haven't checked stuff like wiring harness when they connect new ECU and if it doesn't work they will hurry up and check out everything else as they wouldn't want to admit i bought the ECU for nothing.

I'll hopefully find out more tomorrow,

Cheers Mat

The new ECU i got did not fix the problem. I have to wait till tomorrow for them to get an auto electrician in now.

This is ridiculous that Nissan don't even have sufficiently qualified staff to look at my car now.

Try hitting it with a hammer Mat.
It usually works, especially if its a big one.

Re: Malfunction Indicator (Dashboard Engine Warning Light)

Yes i usually do that at work on items i do not own. No expense to me then.

DO NOT GO TO NISSAN at RYDE

Well after going a bit irate at nissan yesterday and my dad also came round and had a go at them they actually did some work early this morning. They said one of the wires from the MAF was stretched hence the copper conductor inside was not doing it's job. I still don't see how it can be a coincidence that after 6 weeks the fault comes back on straight after i have dropped my car off at nissan?

Funny thing too is i asked where they changed the wire and they said about 50cm from the MAF connecter under the intake ducting. I just had a look and the wires do not go under the intake ducting and they didn't change it 50cm down because i still have mud all over the tape/loom. They could not have wrapped the same tape around again as there would be fingerprints on it then.

The fault code is gone but i have the same problem with the idle, which is why i brought the car to them in the first place! I am starting to think that they have done nothing and wasted my time, they could have just seen the MAF was a past fault disconnected it, the code would come up, waste 1 week and my money. Then all they need to do is reconnect it erase error and back to my problem with the idle.

Idiots they are. I still have a replacement computer so going back tomorrow for them to try that again.

DO NOT GO TO NISSAN at RYDE.

Will post a final bad report for nissan ryde when this issue is finally sorted.

DO NOT GO TO NISSAN at RYDE.

Mat,

You can also use the "dealers feedback" thread.

Further details required, Tony - are you referring to Nissan staff, or the ECU? emoticon

After reading that reply Rich, I would find a sledgehammer for the dealer.
It looks like the Gestapo are spreading their wings.

Look out Nissan owners, the fourth reich is sweeping across Nissan dealers.

Re: Malfunction Indicator (Dashboard Engine Warning Light)

Maybe a sledgehammer for the dealer would do them some good, a bit of good old discipline?

Thanks for your feedback so far.

dropped the car off and went irate at them this morning (7.30am) as to why they didn't fix the problem. their response was that they turned the mil light off for me and i tried to tell them that is not the reason i took the car to the them but to fix the idle problem. Idiot's i guess their trying to protect themselves, so much for customer satisfaction.

I had to ring them a few times to get them started looking at my car. They didn't start till 1pm. They left my car idling for an hour and they and i drove it from 25km (40min or so). The problem seems to have gone away. I say seems as i reckon it really needs 2 weeks to see if the problem may come back? They said they took the throttle body off and cleaned it. I don't see why they didn't clean the outside? It still has mud all over it!! They swapped over the ECU and put my replacement in. They reckon it was probably the ECU. It idles better now. The aircon in 4th setting still idles below the 1,000rom mark, maybe this is normal, i thought it would be higher. It still drops below the idle a little then goes back up slowly but this might be normal?

Not sure if i should start my trip and head straight on the highway as the ECU might not learn right as i am usually in the city type driving?

Re: Malfunction Indicator (Dashboard Engine Warning Light)

Maybe i wrote the above post too soon, i just went out and it sometimes it still drops below the idle too much. I was originally going start my trip tomorrow but will hopefully leave friday now. I don't want to go back to ryde nissan as i don't think they are capable of solving the problem. I'l just take the chance that my car won't die on me out in the bush somewhere until i get back to Sydney and find someone that might be able to solve the problem.
