Re: Malfunction Indicator (Dashboard Engine Warning Light)

A faulty ECU is a possibility indeed, as there had been cases of faulty T30 ECUs before.

Replacement ECU from the wreckers can be obtained for around $800-$950

Re: Malfunction Indicator (Dashboard Engine Warning Light)

Thanks jalal,
I have sent a few enquiries in for availability/pricing so hope to get a few more replies.
The Nissan Dealer said depending on if and what the problem is a repair may be possible, or a replacement which he indicated would be a re-conditioned one. Do you know if the ECM is actually possible to service/repair? Have you heard of this.
Cheers mat.

Mat,

I doubt very much they will be able to repair a faulty ECU. It's like a computer RAM/memory which can't be repaired.

It is definately not the MAF as i have bought a new aftermarket one and the dealer had a spare on hand to test out another one.

Has an idle relearn been done since changing the MAF ?

Yes, they said they tried a few times and every time it worked for 5-10minutes then the engine light came on. The engine light was not on before and only came on after they first tried the idle relearn.

Re: Malfunction Indicator (Dashboard Engine Warning Light)

Well the ECU will not be checked now. The dealer contacted their two diagnostics people and they both shut today and don't reopen till the 4th Jan. It would cost $150 just to diagnose any problems.

Nissan arn't 100% sure it is the ECU but i'm not able to wait 2 weeks as i have booked tickets to tasmania via ferry. I decided to take a chance and have found one for $330 from 'Roche Motor Wrecking P/L' located in Botany. It has been tested with a 3month warranty. They will send it over to the Nissan dealer so will hopefully know by monday if the car will work.

With all this technology, fault codes and computer diagnostics it is worrying to hear that they still can't find what the problem is.
You really have to ask "what is the point?"

Yes i thought they had all the equipment to diagnose it properly, that's why i went to a nissan dealer and not a local mechanic! At least when they get another ECU on monday, hopefully they can connect it up and code it properly and that will tell me if it's the computer or something else. If it's not the computer i might have to tow it to another nissan dealer to look at it.

It could even be something as simple as a loose ECU-wiring loom harness plug. It wouldn't be the first time it's happened...

Whatever you do Matt, don't take it to Gestapo HQ (Nepean Motor Group), you'll never get it back.
