Re: Nissan roof racks - poor finish (any options ?)

Brett, here is your answer.

Got it at Bunnings for about $5.
The colour and shine is almost a perfect match to the roof rails.
Below is the finish.

Kev,
I have just done the same thing, but used the fabric type '100 mile tape'. The black is darker than in your pic and is a bit more easily seen. I am off to Sydney tomorrow, so I'll see if it is still there after the run on the Freeway. Mate, yours looks very professionally done. Good stuff.

Hi Guys,

These are the Series II (new style) genuine nissan roof racks, which are a perfect fit with no gaps.

Yeah, but will these 'feet' fit the design of the older Series 1 roof racks. They appear different and higher.

Re: Nissan roof racks - poor finish (any options ?)

Brett, I don't think the base of the new style roof racks will be compatible with the older style Nissan ones, as the mounting points look closer together in the new style.

After looking at them closely tonight, they're almost the exact match to the Rhino Sportz roof racks I have and who knows, maybe Nissan decided to SHIFT their orders to come from Rhino instead of Rolla (due to the imperfection with the older style racks)

During your trip to Stockton it maybe worth trying to test fit an older style racks on a series II and see where the difference is.

It is worth mentioning that any new owner buying a new exy (Series II) and is given a freebie roof racks as part of the package and finds them to be the older style, can request the dealer to swap them with the new styl/stock instead. I know I would do that if I were you.

Re: Nissan roof racks - poor finish (any options ?)

I picked up and installed some Nissan genuine roof racks last week.

When I was shopping around I was told that the Rhino bars weren't key lockable while the Rola ones are. As the Nissan bars are lockable, would this suggest that they are in fact rebranded Rolas?

Anyway they are a great fit and I haven't noticed any wind noise with them. I'm yet to use them to carry anything though, but I plan to construct a contraption for carrying surf fishing rods this week.

Joel the Series 1 Nissan racks are I suspect rebranded Rola racks.

I have a set of snowski clamps and tie-downs from my old Rola racks off my previous 2 cars and they fitted the Nissan racks perfectly.

Someone else could advise you about the Series 2 racks which Jalal mentioned might be compatable to the Rhino Sportz racks for your 2006 Exy.

The Series 1 roof racks are re-branded Rola Sports racks.

I purchased some Rola mounting plates for the purpose of mounting the PVC tubing on my car to carry around my fishing rods.

You can also get fishing rod specific holders from Rola that will fit perfectly.

Naff,
You may have answered one of my problems. What is the tube connector called, any part number. I need to attach a piece of tubing for my ensuing FNQ fishing trip.

Re: Nissan roof racks - poor finish (any options ?)

Brett,

I thought I detailed my setup in elsewhere on the forum but it may have just been in a pm to someone who enquired.

The setup I use is relatively inexpensive and very simple. It is just a piece of PVC tubing with a glued cap at one end, and a threaded piece (glued on) and cap at the other (no specific part number - home made).

It is mounted with a saddle clip on each rack. This clip is screwed into two mounting plates from Rola that slide inside the roof rack cross member itself.

Then I just got my brother to spray paint it so it blended nicely with the car.

The mounting pieces were a few dollars each. Overall the setup cost around $40.00 compared to the $181.50 that it costs to buy the Rola clamps specifically for long items.

I'd take some more detailed photos than what you can see in the members rides section, but I'm between houses at the moment and wouldn't know where to start looking for all the bits!

Rola Mounting Plates - Part No. MP $23.00 - Click Trade Accessories

Rola Fishing Rod Locking Arm - Part No. LA4 $181.50 - Click Water Accessories
