Re: Say CHEESE! Photography tips & tricks

Most places are selling last years stock cheap, the new models are now out and they have the image stabilizer in the lens just something to think about or just ask them if its the new series cameras or the old ones.

Re: Say CHEESE! Photography tips & tricks

Matt,
Good work on the camera, Just out of interest did you have a chance to have a look at the Nikon D40x. Its the direct competitor to 400D however its around $100 more expensive but comes with 2 image stabilizing lenses and a $200 cash back deal at the moment. I bought this model a few weeks ago and have been extremley impressed.
I tried out both cameras for a few days and was impressed by both models but the Nikon felt just a little more solid.
Anyway have fun with your new toy, Im sure it will come in handy with the new baby on the scene

Re: Say CHEESE! Photography tips & tricks

Hi Dan,

The Nikon D40x does look quite good.
Here is the DPreview article on it.

Here is the ISO noise comparison tests of the D40x with the Canon 400D. The Canon still has a slightly better sharpness at 800 & 1600 ISO but the D40x is much better than the Olymous and others.

Now you have given me something to think about and it might come down to the lenses available, the lack of dust-reduction and the built-in AF-assist lamp.

Re: Say CHEESE! Photography tips & tricks

Just made an X-Trail photo gallery page on my website and threw a few photos up...

here is the link to the gallery page

Hopefully I'll add some more when I get the chance to go through my thousands of photos and shrink the good ones to a reasonable web-friendly size...

Re: Say CHEESE! Photography tips & tricks

Having worked in the photographic industry for about 5 years and about 10 years of taking photos, good choice bfa, Nikons are the way to go. I have had soooooo many debates with other photographers over Canon vs Nikon. In the end who cares, whatever you like and feel happy using. I use a Nikon D80 with a bunch of different lenses and flashes, plus a whole lot more crap. I love taking photos and if I can offer any help to anyone I`ll try my best.

Re: Say CHEESE! Photography tips & tricks

Hi Laura,

I will be upgrading very soon and am undecided between Canon 40D and Nikon D90.

Was thinking of a Nikon D300 instead of the Canon 50D as the reviews were not so good for the 50D but the D300 is a bit much in price although I like the features.

Knowing you are a Nikon girl, have you ever considered a Canon and is there any advice you can give me regarding Nikon lenses. I have quite a few people at work with Canon cameras.

Re: Say CHEESE! Photography tips & tricks

ARGH i just posted a reply and it wented....

Yes go the D300 if you can. It all depends on whether you can afford some good lens's after that though.

Speak to Danny at Nikon on Broadway, hold a D300 and see if you like it? They are big. Hold a Cannon, its important to feel comfy with it.

Ebay can get you some good deals on lens's. Get a good fast zoom lens, i have an 80-400mm VR, but that was dam expensive. i also have a 40-200mm and a 50mm

Re: Say CHEESE! Photography tips & tricks

Just saw JB is advertising the D90 with two VR lens's for less than 1800 if you pay cash I suppose. 18-55 and 55-200, not bad lens choices.
