Re: Power Window Relay T31 Series

T31 Power Window Delay Update.
Hi Guys,
I thought it timely to give you an update as to where we are with the T31 Power Window Delay. I have now received a number of the printed circuit boards I had been waiting on and expect to fill the orders which have been placed in the next couple of weeks. I have included a couple of pictures, the first showing the populated PCB and one showing the completed unit. You can see the high current taps at the ends of the cables and the three pictures of how they are installed.
Since the original testing and the installation into Jalal's Series 4, I am happy to report that we DO NOT have to cut any wires. Just bare the insulation on the Yellow and Blue at the BCM and fit the high current clamps. The smaller brown wire is spliced into the accessories wire of the BCM using a red Vampire clip or insulation displacement device if you know it by that name. The green that leaves the box has an eyelet attached which goes under one the BCM mounting screws.
I share the concerns people may have about fitting this mod due to warranty issues. I read a member's post this week where a dealer had told them, if he cuts one wire to fit a different head unit, the warranty would be void. Like to test that one with the ACCC. This would mean anyone that has tapped into a wire to fit Air Horns, Spot Lights, additional lighting, your warranty is now void.?? We are not cutting any wires here, just tapping into them.
As the delay unit is in parallel with the switching of the BCM, should the unit fail, power is still applied to the windows under the normal circumstances. As by our earlier post, the widows operate with only Accessories and the delay after key off is fixed at approximately 45 seconds. The full installation manual should be available here in a couple of weeks and will include Series 1 and 2, 3 and 4.
My problem is now that I have become accustomed to the delay with the Xtrail, I get caught out more often with the Toyota Hilux and Rodeo at work. This is not their only downfall when compared to the Xtrail.

Re: Power Window Relay

Great work John, this has been bugging me since day 1 with my series 1. How do I get hold of one of those boards? No problems building it myself.

Re: Power Window Relay T31 Series 1,2, 3 and 4

Hi Barney,
Great to have you onboard. Please email me or send a PM with your mailing address. Are you going to solder the connections directly or should I send a couple of the clamps anyway. I'll send the parts list and a draft copy of the Series 1 and 2 install guide as it stands. Our good mate Steve (Steve50) is going to confirm the wiring for us, so hopefully we will be able to finalise the Series 1 and 2 guide. Really appreciate a couple of pictures once your done.

Cheers
John

Re: Power Window Relay T31 Series 1, 2, 3 and 4

Hi Guys,
Last week, I sent Steve a guide as to how to install the unit into his Series 1 using the diagrams of the BCM as shown in the ESM available on our forum. While he was able to identify and test the three wires we need, it was obvious that his BCM was entirely different. At this point I thought we were dead in the water until I compared Steve's pictures to that of my own BCM and you guessed it, they are identical. Apart from the JG in the part number being upgraded to UB, the model number ect, is the same. The ESM on the forum is obviously for an overseas model, not ours, and this isn't the only time I have noticed the difference.

What this now means, is the one unit with just the one set of instruction guides, will go across all four series of the T31. Great work by Steve and I'm sure we will hear more from him next week after he installs the unit.

Cheers
John

Re:

Hi John,

Not sure about that mate, but the ESM for the T31 Series 1 and 2 was correctly reflecting all other wiring diagrams including the audio ones, so maybe the difference is limited to the BCM section, as the T31s overseas may already have the power delay timer fitted to them as standard.

Hopefully it'll work for Steve and all others as expected, but I'd rather have one Series 1/2 confirm it first before the rest of the guys go a head and install it.

Re: Power Window Relay

Hi I installed the power window relay today and it works great,it was very easy to install,it took me about 2 hours to do and that taking my time double checking every step and taking pics along the way which I will send off to john so he can put them into the fitting instructions for the series 1 x trail.
Steve.
