Fuel siphon

Hey Guys, I've been searching the site unsucessfully for any info as to whether ir not the exy's tank can be siphoned. I use one those siphon pumps from repco. I have a boat and generator at a camp site at eildon, and rather than cart jerry cans of fuel in the car, I used to siphon fuel from my tank outa my old car to fill the boat and jerry cans at the camp site.
I cannot seem to however, get the siphon hose down deep enough into the x-trail's tank. Feels like there is some ani-siphoning device situated just before the tank. Has anyone ever tried this?

Re: Fuel siphon

There is nothing there to block the hose from reaching the fuel tank, it is just hard because there are too many bends in the fuel filler tube and that little fuel filler hose that connects to the fuel tank.

Keep pushing mate emoticon

Here is the diagram of the fuel tank components.

The other option would be to lift the rear seat and get fuel straight from the fuel tank emoticon

Re: Fuel siphon

Has anyone tried to uncouple the fuel injection manifold rack, replace it with a hose and turn on the ignition to run the fuel pump? This would be an easy way to obtain fuel. Just make sure that the engine isn’t hot when unplugging and pumping.

Yes it is. These are selling on eBay.

The On Line X-Trail Shop is running a special at the moment whereby a FREE copy of the electronic service manual will be sent with any order placed through the shop.

Re: Fuel siphon

I also tried once and gave up. My hose seemed to catch on something and refused to budge.
Perhaps if you shaved the end of the hose so that there is not a square edge (like the end of a pencil) the hose might slide over any bumps.

Re: Fuel siphon

I suspect the hose will be getting stuck at the first bend of the fuel filler tube (as shown in the pic below) It is pretty sharp bend.

The fuel tank can be accessed from under the rear left passenger seat. There is a cap there holding a sensor and the fuel filter which can be un-screwed, but I don't recommend this option as it is risky and you will end-up filling the car with fuel fumes.

Re: Fuel siphon

I thought all modern cars had to have a anti-siphon device inside the filler tube.

And also the fuel line in the engine bay is a disposeable item, you'd have to slit it with a knife to get it off the steel line and then obviously it's not going to go back on....

You could check the drain plug at the bottom of the tank - oops, there isn't one! (just checked the manual). The only drain is the right foot!

Jerry can's lookin pretty good.

Re: Fuel siphon

Smaller diameter hose (garden hose?)

On this topic, has anyone noticed that the exy is rather hard to fil?, EG; the fuel pump keeps cutting out as the splashback triggers the pnumatic safety cut off.

I am yet to find the right spot to position the fuel filler, any ideas?
